Job DescriptionThe Advanced Warfighting Technologies Division in the Advanced Concepts Laboratory (ACL) seeks qualified candidates for the position of Co‑Op for the Fall 2026 semester. The role is to support various levels of the research and design process based on the intern’s motivation, experience, and capabilities.
Responsibilities include:
- Mechanical/System design as warranted by the task/mission
- Experimental design and optimization
- Gathering and processing experimental data
- Recording and articulating individual and/or group research results
- Other mission‑supporting tasks as required
Minimum Qualifications
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA
- Full‑time intern—must be registered for full‑time internship credit
- Part‑time intern—must be registered for 6+ credit hours
- Familiarity with Solid Works CAD software
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Excellent written and communication skills
- Willingness to work in a fast‑paced team environment
- Eligible to obtain a DoD Clearance
- Experience with hand tools, drill presses, hand saws, 3D printers, etc.
- Previous or active DoD Secret clearance or higher
- Enthusiastic about learning new technologies and assessing ways for them to be used in operational environments for the warfighter
- Experience working with federal government (military, civilian, or contractor)
- Experience in the development of unmanned systems
- Previous engineering design experience including electrical hardware, mechanical design, and assembly
- Previous job, team, or military experience preferred
- Familiarity with MATLAB for stress analysis
- Familiarity with Python
- Familiarity with Ansys
- Familiarity with machining tools
Candidate must obtain and maintain an active security clearance. A DoD clearance is required.
Work Hours- Full‑time: 40 hours per week
- Part‑time: 20 hours per week
Due to research contracts with the U.S. federal government, applicants must be U.S. citizens.
