Job Description: This position is located within the Structural Pest Division (SPD) of the GDA. SPD is responsible for licensing and regulating pest management professionals, specifically those engaged in the business of structural pest control in the state of Georgia. SPD employs inspectors who perform routine inspections and comprehensive investigations to determine compliance with the Structural Pest Control Act and other state and federal laws.

All inspection staff must participate in training courses, educational workshops, and attain required credentials. Each position is assigned a specific district in which they are required to reside in:
Walton, Oconee, Clarke, Morgan, Greene, Wilkes, Oglethorpe, Putnam, Greene, Wilkes, Lincoln, Taliaferro, Baldwin, Hancock, Warren, McDuffie, Columbia, Wilkinson, Washington, Glascock, Laurens, Johnson, Jefferson, Richmond, Treutlen, Emanuel, Jenkins, Burke, Candler, and Screven.

Job Summary:

  • Conducts inspections/investigations to determine compliance.
  • Investigates and coordinates complaints on complex issues, determines compliance or non-compliance.
  • Writes reports of inspections/investigations describing findings, conclusions, and potential effects.
  • Provides technical expertise to other staff, regulated community, and the public.
  • Communicates technical information including rules, regulations, laws, and procedures by phone, in-person, and in writing to answer questions or concerns and provide direction for the industry and the public.
  • Collects and records technical assistance activities.
  • Writes technical reports.
  • Completes Department forms and reports.
  • Maintains knowledge and develops expertise/resources in focus area(s).

Qualifications and Skills: Vocational or technical degree in agriculture, horticulture, environmental science, pest control, entomology or a closely related field from an accredited college, OR a high school diploma or GED and one year of experience in the area of assignment, OR two years of college which included 12 semester/20 quarter hours in chemistry or life sciences.

Physical Demands: Must be able to work without direct supervision; maintain a Georgia driver’s license; travel overnight; work outdoors in all weather conditions; be able to lift up to 50 pounds; climb up to 15 feet; standing and driving for long periods of time; intermittent squatting, kneeling, or crawling in enclosed spaces. Inspection sites often include basements, attics, and crawl spaces.
