The Georgia State University Police Department provides law enforcement, security and safety services to the university community and the immediate surrounding areas, ensuring a safe environment for our students, faculty, staff and neighbors. The department is accredited and certified by CALEA, IACLEA and the State of Georgia Law Enforcement Certification Program. Georgia State University maintains one of the largest university police forces in the state with 160 officers across six Atlanta metro campuses.
The department is seeking Security Guards to join the team in maintaining the department’s standard of excellence through professional, community‑oriented policing. Our work emphasizes safety for campus communities and is delivered through a committed team approach.

Minimum Hiring Requirements
- High school diploma or GED, no felony convictions.
- Must be able to pass a thorough background investigation and take a pre-employment drug screen.
Preferred Hiring Qualifications
- Knowledge of standard security practices and procedures.
- Ability to patrol assigned areas; perform foot patrols.
- Required to walk for long periods of time as well as up and down stairs.
- May require sitting or standing at a stationary assignment for long periods of time.
- Flexible schedule.
- The Police Department has 24 hours / 7 days a week operation.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
