Description
This position focuses on the entry, management, and retrieval of information within the Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) systems. The core purpose is to provide professional, technical, and analytical support for these systems, ensuring compliance with GCIC regulations. This includes managing data on stolen or lost property, vehicles, missing persons, guns, and all active warrants (Magistrate, probation, and FTA).
This is a highly sensitive role, requiring adherence to requirements set by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations. The individual will assist units with cybercrime prevention and response, ensuring law enforcement remains technologically equipped and effective against modern‑day challenges. Monthly validations, reporting, and other duties will be performed as assigned by the GCIC/Records Supervisor.
- Manage critical technology infrastructure and systems supporting police operations.
- Maintain and update computer networks, databases, software applications, surveillance systems, and other police technological tools.
- Process and analyze information to assist investigations, identify patterns, manage databases, and support decision‑making.
- Respond to GCIC/NCIC hit requests from other agencies; conduct wanted person inquiries on offenders, missing persons, and stolen property; place detainers/holds for extradition, immigration, and other local law enforcement agencies; process apprehension requests for timely offender apprehension; and enter missing persons data.
- Update records based on GBI CCH information; enter warrants; validate, modify, and cancel GCIC/NCIC warrants; log and disseminate GCIC/NCIC information to authorized personnel and/or other law enforcement agencies; monitor the GCIC/NCIC computer terminal.
- Clear and remove all invalid warrants, missing persons, and stolen property entries from the GCIC/NCIC; conduct criminal‑history background investigations via GCIC/NCIC computer terminals.
- Conduct customer‑service functions in person, by telephone, by e‑mail, or by mail; respond to routine questions and complaints; research problems and initiate problem resolution; and refer complex complaints to appropriate personnel.
- Operate various equipment and supplies to complete work assignments; operate a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database presentation, internet, e‑mail, or other systems and software; and operate general office equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
- Utilize computers to enter and retrieve law‑enforcement data from the GCIC and NCIC, such as driver’s license, weapon registration, vehicle tag, article identification numbers, date of birth information. This also involves retrieving and relaying information from GCIC and NCIC to authorized personnel.
- Conduct criminal history checks as needed to process case files and other requests. This includes entering and retrieving computer‑based information and maintaining up‑to‑date knowledge of record‑entry and removal procedures within the computer system.
- Analyze and evaluate data elements from statistical samples through the GBI Validation portal. Record entries in criminal‑justice databases for compliance with applicable Rules of the GCIC Council, laws, regulations, and operational policies.
- Perform inquiries against confidential criminal‑justice databases for compliance with the Rules of the GCIC Council, federal and state laws, and operational procedures. Analyze and evaluate data fields of GCIC/NCIC records in the department.
- Attend training courses offered by the department or as required by law to maintain applicable certifications.
- Process various department‑related documentation operations within designated time frames and according to established procedures.
- Performs other related duties as required.
