Security Officer I – Plant Scherer

Physical and psychological testing required. Must qualify and re‑qualify annually with issued handgun & shotgun. Must possess valid driver’s license and be 21 years old.

The Security Officer protects Georgia Power employees, contractors, visitors and property. Enforces rules, procedures, and laws. Responds to alarms and security requests. Processes personnel for access authorization to Plant McDonough. Interprets procedures and regulations and decides on plant access control.

• High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred)

• Valid Georgia driver’s license
• Experience in the military, law enforcement, corrections, or armed security with customer service background (preferred)
• Knowledge of criminal justice system desired
• Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook proficiency
• Fluency in Spanish a plus

• Learn and enforce plant security policies and procedures
• Knowledge of company policies and local, state, federal criminal laws
• Knowledge of power plant operations
• Basic first aid/CPR

• Must be 21 years of age
• Meet all local, state, federal firearm issuance requirements
• Obtain Armed Security Officer License from the State Board of Private Detective and Security Agencies
• Pass background check and state‑mandated training
• Pass company psychological test, physical exam, background investigation, drug test
• Pass firearm qualification (semiautomatic pistol and shotgun) at least twice annually
• Accept pepper spray during training
• Work rotating shifts: days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, overtime
• Work in severe weather and extreme conditions

• Lift and carry 40 lbs, 50 ft: 3‑4 hrs per shift
• Stand, sit, walk, drive up to considerable hours per shift
• Climb 125 stairs; balance, bend, kneel, crouch, push/pull, squat, reach, grasp
• Work alone up to 8 hrs per shift
• Keyboarding up to 2.5 hrs per shift
• Work at heights; see distance 20/40; recognize colors; 70° peripheral vision; hearing whisper 5 ft; tolerate exposure to oc spray, temperatures, dust, chemicals; valid driver's license; firearms qualification; obtain armed security license

• Run 100 yards within 90 seconds
• Climb 35 ft of stairs within 60 seconds
• Lift 35 lbs and carry 50 yards within 90 seconds
• Maneuver through 24 in opening wearing gear
