Along with the Captain, serves as an advisor to the Warden and his staff in the formulation and implementation of institution policies, procedures and programs. Provides leadership and direction to the Correctional Services department. Assists in the planning, developing and administering of relations which insure strict security and control of inmates in living quarters, work areas, and leisure time activities. Responsible for identifying correctional staff training needs and recommending appropriate training resources.

Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.
