PROPERTYAND EVIDENCE TECH POSITION SUMMARY
The Authority is currently recruiting a Property and Evidence Tech to join the Georgia World Congress Center. Property and Evidence Tech performs intermediate-level clerical and manual work involving the receipt, disposition, and storage of evidence or property. Receives, logs, categorizes, and stores property and evidence impounded by police personnel. Releases property and evidence to properly identified claimants and maintains security of the work area.
Collects fees, issues receipts and changes, and maintains records of these financial transactions. Takes and resolves complaints involved in the storage of evidence and property or refers the matter to higher-level personnel. Performs related duties as required.
- Fast-paced, professional environment within the Georgia World Congress Center campus and the Office of Public Safety.
- Work hours may require flexible scheduling and availability to support evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events based on operational needs.
- Works primarily in a secure property and evidence storage facility within a law enforcement environment. Duties are performed in both office and warehouse-like settings and may require exposure to varying temperatures, dust, odors, noise, and potentially hazardous or biohazardous materials while following established safety protocols and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Frequent interaction with law enforcement personnel, court officials, external agencies, and members of the public is required. Position may require occasional work outdoors when receiving, storing, or releasing large property items or vehicles.
- Full range of body motion necessary to safely perform essential job functions, including frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching above shoulder level, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders or step stools, and handling property and evidence of varying sizes and weights.
- Frequently lifts, carries, pushes, and pulls property and evidence weighing up to 50 pounds independently and heavier items with assistance or appropriate equipment.
- Requires manual dexterity to operate computers, scanners, barcode readers, cameras, and other office and evidence management equipment.
- Requires visual acuity to inspect, identify, catalog, and accurately document property and evidence.
- Requires the ability to distinguish colors, serial numbers, labels, and identifying characteristics.
- Frequently operates a motor vehicle to transport or retrieve evidence and property, as assigned.
- May be required to safely handle and package evidence that includes sharp objects, firearms, narcotics, biological materials, or other hazardous items while adhering to established policies and safety procedures.
- Receives and electronically logs property and evidence impounded by police personnel due to parking violations, arrests, criminal activity, improper registration, health hazards, accidents, and recovered, stolen, lost, and abandoned property. Prepares documents accurately describing the evidence or property.
- Reviews and verifies the accuracy of property or evidence reports.
- Stores and categorizes property or evidence in bins, vaults, parking lot, and on floors and shelves. Ensures security of property and evidence.
- Searches files and records to determine ownership; notifies owner where property is located, and/or releases property to rightful owner.
- Releases property and evidence to properly identified claimants, court officers or police personnel. Maintains records on released property/evidence.
- Receives various complaints, such as claims of unjustified confiscation of property, missing property, or damage incurred from towing. Obtains details to clarify the issue and handles the complaint or refers to higher level personnel.
- Maintains perpetual inventory of property or evidence; prepares periodic inventories when required.
- Maintains security of work area by close observation of individuals admitted to the area and/or through the use of a sound system and television monitor cameras.
- Assists in determining whether property or evidence is to be destroyed or auctioned. Assists in scheduling and organizing articles to be auctioned.
