Carpenter II – Facilities Management Services – Building Maintenance (Zone 04)

Location: Atlanta Campus (Location is subject to change)

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. (Shift subject to change)

Salary Range: $31,200 - $44,123

The Maintenance and Operations Department seeks a Carpenter II to join the already awesome team, taking the Maintenance and Operations Department to the next level of excellence!

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

The ideal candidate performs skilled manual work at the journeyman level, such as building, repairing, refinishing, and installing office furniture and related items. The Carpenter II serves as lead worker over a small group of employees and instructs others in properly using tools in the carpentry trade. In addition to supporting the department, the Carpenter II will also do the following:

  • Build and repair desks, tables, chairs, bookcases, etc.
  • Build room partitions and other structures.
  • Study blueprints and building plans to determine the materials needed and dimensions of structures.
  • Select the building materials.
  • Repair and maintain doors, cabinets, bookcases, floors, and other structures.
  • Install doors, windows, tiles, floors, ceilings, etc.
  • Perform bench work in the carpentry shop.
  • Mark cutting and assembly lines on materials; shape the material to the prescribed measurements.
  • Assemble, cut, and shape materials and fasten them together.
  • Erect frameworks for structures and lay sub‑flooring.
  • Apply decorative material to walls and ceilings.
  • Fit and install prefabricated windows, doors, etc.
  • Construct forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
  • Erect scaffolds and ladders to assist in the performance of duties.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Technical or vocational degree and two years of related experience; or a high school diploma or GED and four years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Knowledge of equipment, practices, and procedures of the carpentry trade.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools of the carpentry trade.
  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolds.
  • Ability to access confined spaces.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
