Position: DWM Plant Maintenance Mechanic II (Intrenchment Creek)

Salary Range

$44,369 - $59,232

General Description

Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on mechanical equipment in the maintenance of buildings, grounds and utility systems of plants.

Responsibilities

This experienced level position may include, but is not limited to:

  • Maintaining machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, chemical feeders, chlorinators, control units, pumps, water tanks, screens, and other production equipment using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring and testing instruments in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals and manufacturer's specifications; adjusting functional parts of devices; identifying equipment maintenance needs; recording mechanical equipment readings; lubricating and cleaning parts.
  • Repairing and troubleshooting equipment; observing mechanical devices in operation to locate causes of trouble; dismantling devices to access repair or replace defective parts using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools; repairing electrical equipment; welding and using cutting torches; performing routine mechanical, electrical, welding, or machining maintenance activities on equipment including lubrication, inspection, and replacement parts; ordering and maintaining stock levels of lubricants.
  • Conducting performance tests of plant equipment using tachometers, pressure gauges, flow meters, amp and volt meters.
  • Diagnosing, troubleshooting, updating and repairing malfunctioning plant equipment; maintaining, repairing and overhauling treatment plant equipment including aeration blowers, barminutors, pumps, motors, compressors, belt presses, valves, drive units, hydraulic control units, chlorinators, chemical feeders, pneumatic equipment, and hydraulic pressure systems.
  • Participating in the installation of wastewater treatment plant equipment and making modifications to equipment for maximum treatment process performance.
  • Performing pipe fitting; installing and repairing air, sewer and hydraulic piping systems; maintaining efficient records on operations and activities; maintaining plant safety records; maintaining and recording shipping and receiving of parcels; preparing reports on data; maintaining records of plant function readings and equipment history; maintaining preventative maintenance records and schedules.
  • Ensuring and adhering to safe work practices and procedures including lockout/tag out and confined space rules and regulations.
  • Interpreting drawings, blueprints, schematics and diagrams for wastewater systems.
  • Operating heavy equipment such as loaders, backhoes, bulldozers, cranes, forklifts, and graders as necessary.
  • Initiating purchase orders for parts and equipment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques for maintaining and repairing wastewater plant equipment, machinery and related facilities; lubricants used in plant equipment; electrical codes; fundamentals of pipe fitting and fabrication; programmable logic controls, telemetry units and fiber optics; operational characteristics of maintenance equipment and tools; occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
  • Skill in using office equipment including computers and supporting software applications.
  • Ability to perform preventative maintenance tasks on plant equipment, machinery and related facilities; operate maintenance equipment safely and effectively; read, interpret and understand technical manuals, blueprints, drawings, and diagrams; maintain detailed records and prepare clear and concise reports.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
  • 1–3 years of increasingly responsible experience in maintaining and repairing water/wastewater plant equipment.
  • Senior qualifications: 3+ years of experience.
Preferred Education & Experience
  • Completion of a technical or vocational course of study in mechanics or a related field, or an associate’s degree in the appropriate area.
  • 1 year of increasingly responsible experience in maintaining and repairing water/wastewater plant equipment.
Licensure and Certifications
  • Mech-Tech License preferred.
  • Water Distribution or Backflow License preferred.
Essential Capabilities and Work Environment

Required physical, lifting, and sensory capabilities are necessary to perform the job successfully. Typical environmental conditions include exposure to wet, dirty, and potentially hazardous areas. Work may require lifting heavy items, operating machinery, handling chemicals, and working in confined spaces.
