Building Maintenance, Maintenance Worker
The Water & Sewer Maintenance Worker I assists in constructing, repairing, and maintaining water and sewer lines.
Essential Job Functions- Reads meters for billing.
- Assists in the construction, maintenance, and repair of water and sewer lines and mains.
- Performs daily inspections of sewer lift stations and maintains records.
- Makes water and sewer taps.
- Operates a backhoe, vacuum truck, and pumps.
- Changes and sets meters and meter boxes.
- Assists in locating and repairing leaks in water lines and meters.
- Connects and disconnects water and sewer services.
- Locates water and sewer lines.
- Assists in laying pipe as needed.
- Installs backflow prev enters.
- Assists in installing, maintaining, and repairing fire hydrants.
- Repairs lawns after service has been repaired and/or restored.
- Repairs utility cuts necessitated by water and sewer repairs.
- Assists in emergency repairs as required.
- Assists other crews as directed.
- Maintains well houses, lift stations, pumps, and chlorine equipment and keeps accurate records.
- Maintains assigned vehicle and tools.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience: Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses or
Certifications:
Possession of or the ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. At a minimum a Certification in Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester or Water Distribution Systems Operator State License. Water Distribution Systems Operator supersedes a Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester State Certification, or a Wastewater Operator Class III, Water Operator Class III, or a Water Operator Class III (G) State License.
Special Requirements: This position may be required to work extended hours including evenings and weekends to respond to emergency issues.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of policies and procedures pertaining to the maintenance and repair of water and sewer lines and mains.
- Knowledge of the methods and practices of installing, maintaining, and repairing water and sewer lines and water mains.
- Skill in the use of a sewer rodding machine and various hand tools.
- Skill in the installation, maintenance, and repair of water and sewer lines and mains.
- Skill in oral and written communications.
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Ability to use small office equipment and computers for data entry and word processing.
- Ability to use or repair small, medium, and heavy equipment and machinery.
Salary: $21.96 per hour
