Job SummaryThe Welder, Certified position performs diversified welding and fabrication on a wide variety of complex assemblies and structures and is authorized to perform structural steel repairs to the rental fleet when required. A Certified Welder is defined as an employee who holds a valid 3G AWS D1.1 structural steel welding certification from an AWS D1.1 testing facility (attainable using MIG or Flux Core processes).
This position is a safety-sensitive role that requires compliance with the company’s drug and alcohol policy and adherence to all safety regulations and procedures.
- Reviews work orders/prints; plans the welding sequence, fit-up approach, and required tools/materials.
- Fabricates components/assemblies by cutting, burning, fitting, and welding steel and other metals.
- Performs structural steel repairs and rebuilds using AWS D1.1-compliant techniques and approved welding equipment (MIG/Flux Core, as applicable).
- Prepares base metal; sets up, aligns, assembles, and tack-welds parts to verify fit-up prior to final welding.
- Builds up and restores worn or damaged surfaces to required dimensions and serviceability.
- Use oxy-fuel/plasma cutting equipment to dismantle assemblies and cut material to size and shape.
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work area; performs routine equipment care and basic preventive maintenance.
- Dismantles or cuts obsolete equipment as assigned; segregates parts and scrap per branch procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
- Acknowledges and follows the Company safety policy; complies with all safety rules and regulations.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- High attention to detail, measurement accuracy, and weld quality.
- Professional communication and teamwork skills.
- Sound judgment; prioritizes safety in all decisions.
- Organized; able to manage multiple repair priorities efficiently.
- Certification is met when an NTS employee passes the 3G AWS D1.1 certification test at an AWS D1.1 testing facility. Upon passing, the job title Welder, Certified will be assigned.
- An NTS employee with previous certification meets the requirement by passing the applicable recertification test.
- Training may be acquired by working as an assistant to a Certified Welder in the branch and subsequently passing the 3G certification test.
- HUB Branches and any branch location making structural repairs to the rental fleet must develop and maintain Certified Welders.
- Minimum (3) three years of welding experience
- Must hold and maintain a valid 3G AWS D1.1 structural steel welding certification from an AWS D1.1 testing facility (MIG or Flux Core).
- Ability to obtain forklift certification as required
