Position Title
Maintenance Mechanic I, General Maintenance/Roofer
SummaryPerforms a variety of skilled tasks associated with the roofing trade as primary assignment and semi‑skilled tasks of various trades including carpentry, trowel trades, ceiling tile, and floor tile.
Essential Duties- Utilizes blueprints, schematics, drawings, layouts, or other specifications to complete tasks which include repair and maintenance on various types of roofs.
- Must be able to make repairs to leaking roofs using acceptable methods recommended by manufacturers.
- Must also have a general working knowledge of installing floor tile, ceiling tile, metal stud walls, hang drywall, hang window blinds, and other general installation and repair work.
- Utilizes hand tools, testing and diagnostic equipment, simple power tools and equipment as appropriate for the trade to complete assigned tasks.
- Cleans worksites including hauling debris and trash, cleaning tools and equipment, and ensuring tools, materials and equipment are stored properly.
- Demonstrates knowledge of tools and safety practices commonly used in various trades.
- Determines proper methods, equipment, and materials to facilitate cost effective repairs.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Certification / Licensure- Valid Georgia Driver License required.
- Eligible to acquire a CDL.
- Must be insurable by Fulton County School insurance carriers.
Minimum of 2 years of roofing experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Working knowledge of materials, methods, tools, and equipment of the roofing repair trade.
- Working knowledge of roofing systems to include metal, built‑up, single ply, and modified systems.
- Knowledge in use of hand and power tools and large equipment attachments related to the trade.
- Working knowledge of materials, methods, tools, and equipment of various other trades.
- Ability to understand and follow directions both written and verbal.
- Ability to work variable shifts.
- Regular exposure to weather including heat, cold, dampness, and/or humidity.
- Must be able to work from tall ladders, lifts, scaffolding, and/or bucket truck.
- Typically requires climbing ladders; pushing and/or pulling.
- Must have sufficient strength and manual dexterity to operate power equipment.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry for short distances.
- Must be able to stand, crouch, and climb to use ladders and perform various types of manual labor.
