Webber - Laborer - Heavy Civil

General Purpose of the Job

Assist Foreman and skilled craft workers in performing their assigned duties under close supervision. Usually an entry‑level position as the first step to learn a skill.

• Digging, spreading and leveling dirt, sand and gravel using a pick, shovel or rake.
• Lift, carry and hold construction materials, tools and supplies.
• Clean tools, equipment, materials and work area.
• Mix, pour and spread concrete, asphalt, gravel and other materials using hand tools.
• Join, wrap and seal sections of pipe.
• Perform routine non‑machine tasks such as removing forms, filling excavations, placing pipe sections in trench and assembling sections of pipe.
• Perform machine tasks such as tapping soil, jack hammering and assisting in the fusing of pipe.

• Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures.
• Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.
• Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
• Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
• Must be able to drive.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Less than a High School Diploma.
• A valid driver's License.

• Outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions (e.g., rain, sun, snow, wind).

• Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers and perceives attributes of objects and materials.

• Must be able to successfully complete and pass a background check for security clearance.
• A clear Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) is essential.
• Position involves work at and around the Jacksonville airport.
