The ideal candidate will perform tasks related to irrigation: maintaining and repairing irrigation systems, replacing, repairing, troubleshooting, and adjusting faulty irrigation components, including controllers, valves, heads, lines, belts, switches, and contacts. The candidate operates lightweight standard trenching and digging machinery and guides and oversees the work of others if related support is needed.
- Conduct wet checks and monitor irrigation system performance in designated areas regularly.
- Operate timers, clocks, and controls for sprinklers.
- Program irrigation controllers as needed.
- Replace, repair, and troubleshoot faulty irrigation components such as controllers, valves, heads, and main and lateral lines.
- Install new drip irrigation and turf sprinkler systems as needed.
- Perform scheduled shutoffs for campus event requests.
- Recognize water deficiencies in turf areas and make the necessary corrections.
- Order, purchase, and inventory supplies.
- Operate lightweight standard trenching and digging machinery (e.g., walk‑behind Ditch Witch, stand‑on mini‑skid steer).
- Drive to any of the GSU campuses to perform the work.
- Assist in maintenance activities as required.
- Guide and oversee the work of others if related support is needed (e.g., Groundskeepers).
- Perform physical activity (e.g., heavy lifting, pushing, pulling objects over 50 pounds).
- Read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned and attend meetings associated with the scope of work.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or GED and three years of related experience, such as landscape irrigation, installing, maintaining, and repairing irrigation and/or sprinkler systems, or related plumbing equipment and pumps.
- A valid Georgia driver’s license is required.
- Knowledge of operating lightweight standard trenching and digging machinery.
- Knowledge of work‑related health and safety regulations.
- Knowledge of Xeriscape techniques.
- Effective communication, time management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings (e.g., blueprints).
Salary offers will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications in relation to the Minimum Hiring Standards. Candidates earlier in their careers are typically offered salaries closer to the minimum of the hiring range, while those with more advanced or relevant experience may be considered for compensation at or above the hiring range.
