American Skilled Trades Academy (ASTA), in partnership with Power Champions, is looking for motivated individuals who want to build a long-term career as Emergency Power Supply System (EPSS) technicians.
Apprentices are employees from their first day in the program. Through our 280-hour EPSS Technician Apprentice Program, they receive structured technical education from ASTA while gaining paid, hands-on experience alongside seasoned EPSS technicians.
Extensive generator experience is not required. We are looking for dependable, mechanically inclined, safety-minded individuals who are ready to learn, work hard, and grow with us.
What You'll Do
- Participate in classroom and hands-on technical training through ASTA
- Work alongside experienced service technicians in the field
- Learn the basic operation of diesel-powered generator systems
- Assist with preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs
- Learn to safely use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and digital multimeters
- Develop foundational knowledge of engines, electrical systems, batteries, fuel systems, cooling systems, exhaust systems, governors, and automatic transfer switches
- Document completed work and maintain accurate service records
- Follow company safety requirements and applicable industry standards
- Complete assigned coursework, assessments, and on-the-job learning requirements
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment
- Demonstrate steady progress toward program and career milestones
What We’re Looking For
- High school diploma or GED
- 18+ years of age
- Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation
- Ability to perform the physical responsibilities of the position
- Willingness to travel to customer locations and work indoors/outdoors in varying conditions
- Interest in building a career in generator service and critical power
- Mechanical aptitude and an interest in electrical systems
- Willingness to participate in classroom instruction and hands-on field training
- Dependable attendance
- Ability to follow instructions and work safely as part of a team
- Ability to meet applicable pre-employment requirements
- Previous mechanical, electrical, automotive, diesel, military, construction, technical-school, or other hands-on experience is helpful but not required.
