Mechanical Superintendent

The Mechanical Superintendent will lead on-site mechanical construction activities for commercial projects, ensuring safe, on-schedule delivery of HVAC, piping, sheet metal and related systems. This role supervises field crews and subcontractors, coordinates with project management and other trades, enforces quality and safety standards, and oversees installation, testing and commissioning to meet project specifications and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct and supervise field installation of HVAC, piping, sheet metal and mechanical systems for commercial construction projects.
• Plan, schedule and sequence daily and weekly field work to meet project milestones and coordinate with general contractors and other trades.
• Manage, mentor and evaluate journeymen, apprentices and subcontractor teams; assign tasks and monitor productivity and workmanship.
• Verify installations comply with contract documents, shop drawings, industry codes and quality standards; perform and document inspections.
• Conduct site safety briefings, enforce safety policies and ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety programs.
• Coordinate material deliveries, equipment staging and on-site logistics; work with procurement to resolve shortages or substitutions.
• Perform takeoffs and review quantity estimates with project managers and estimators; identify potential scope or cost impacts in the field.
• Oversee start-up, testing, balancing and commissioning activities for HVAC and mechanical systems; troubleshoot and resolve field issues.
• Maintain accurate daily reports, field logs, RFIs, change order documentation and as-built records.
• Communicate regularly with project management, clients, inspectors and other stakeholders to provide status updates and escalate issues as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or trade certification preferred (Mechanical, HVAC or Construction-related).
• 7+ years of mechanical construction experience with at least 3 years in a superintendent or lead field role on commercial projects.
• Proven experience with HVAC systems, mechanical piping, sheet metal installation and field erection practices.
• Strong knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, shop drawings and ability to perform takeoffs and quantity checks.
• Demonstrated familiarity with installation, testing, balancing and commissioning of mechanical systems.
• Working knowledge of safety regulations and certifications (OSHA 10/30, company safety programs) and a track record of enforcing safe work practices.
• Excellent leadership, communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple crews and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with construction management software and tools (scheduling software such as MS Project or Primavera, Procore or similar) and mobile field reporting.
• Valid drivers license and ability to travel to and work at job sites; welding, piping or HVAC trade certifications a plus.
