Department of Enterprise Asset Management

Building Maintenance Technician I

Salary Range: $42,582 - $54,000/annually

This position will be based at the Atlanta Detention Center.

General Description And Classification Standards

The purpose of this job is to perform semi‑skilled work functions associated with general maintenance of assigned facilities. Duties include but are not limited to repairing and maintaining facilities and equipment; performing general construction, repair, and installation tasks; performing basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, landscaping, and other tasks. On call for after‑hour facility emergencies.

Responsibilities
  • Perform general maintenance, repair, and installation tasks such as installing/repairing doors, changing bulbs, locks, fences, basic plumbing duties, changing plumbing fixtures; repairing gutters/down–spouts and roof leaks; assembling furniture or equipment; hanging pictures, blinds, event setups/breakdowns, and moving furniture.
  • Perform exterior facility grounds/landscaping tasks and exterior facility pressure washing.
  • Provide assistance to other positions as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with co‑workers and other employees concerning work orders, problems, requests for assistance, and emergency situations.
  • Communicate with supervisor any problems that arise; accept supervisory instruction and direction.
  • Plan and organize daily work orders; establish priorities for the completion of work in accordance with needs.
  • Estimate expected time of completion of work assignments with the ability to prioritize accordingly.
  • Plan and prepare for special projects monthly.
  • Prepare checklist and perform routine preventative maintenance on buildings and equipment as needed.
  • Clean and maintain equipment and supplies; assist in cleaning and maintaining workshop area.

  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment with competing priorities and meet established goals and objectives.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Must have familiarity with work order systems.
  • Must be able to use technology for work order processing.
  • Must be able to be on‑call 24/7 and available for after‑hour emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Three (3) years of building repairs and maintenance, carpentry, or trade proficiency in basic plumbing, simple electrical, carpentry, drywall, tile, flooring, and painting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Building Operators Certification (BOC)
  • Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) Certification
  • International Facility Management Association (IFMA) Certification
  • HVAC Certification
Certifications & Licensure

Valid Georgia Driver's License.

Physical Requirements

Frequent standing & walking; occasional sitting; carrying objects up to 50 lbs. The ability to lift 50 pounds and to bend, kneel, stoop, and twist is frequently required.
