SPMT Operator​/Rigger

We are looking for an SPMT Operator who understands that operating specialized equipment is only part of the job. The best operators understand the load, the equipment, the plan, the environment, and the people around them.

Because when you're moving something this big, precision isn't optional.

As an SPMT Operator at Edwards, you will help execute some of our most challenging specialized transport projects.

You will:

• Safely operate Self-Propelled Modular Transporters during loading, transport, positioning, and unloading operations.
• Assist with the setup, configuration, connection, and breakdown of SPMT systems.
• Perform pre-use inspections and identify mechanical, equipment, or operational concerns before a move begins.
• Follow engineered transport plans, JHAs, load configurations, and direction from project leadership.
• Continuously monitor load stability, equipment performance, clearances, and changing site conditions.
• Coordinate closely with Superintendents, Foremen, Leadmen, Riggers, and other Operators throughout the move.
• Assist with mobilization, demobilization, and equipment loadout.
• Recognize hazards, communicate concerns, and exercise stop-work responsibility when conditions aren't right.
• Support heavy rigging and specialized transport operations outside of SPMT operation when needed.

Operating the controls is one thing. Understanding what's happening around the machine is another.

We're looking for someone who brings:

• Strong awareness of equipment, load movement, clearances, and changing site conditions.
• The ability to follow engineered plans and precise operating instructions.
• A disciplined approach to equipment inspection and preparation.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a coordinated rigging team.
• Good judgment and the confidence to speak up when something doesn't look right.
• A commitment to safe execution, regardless of schedule pressure.
• The flexibility to assist with other heavy rigging and specialized transport activities when the SPMT isn't moving.

Above all, we're looking for an operator who understands one simple principle:

The bigger the load, the more the details matter.

At Edwards Moving & Rigging, SPMTs aren't something we keep around so they look impressive sitting in the yard.

Our SPMT Operators support complex heavy haul and specialized rigging projects where planning, precision, communication, and execution all must come together.

An SPMT doesn't know if the clearance is getting tight.

It doesn't know if the load looks different than it did thirty seconds ago.

It doesn't know if site conditions have changed.

It doesn't know if something simply doesn't feel right.

That's why we're not just looking for someone who knows how to operate an SPMT.

We're looking for someone who pays attention, communicates, understands the plan, respects the equipment, and knows when to stop.
