Introduction:
Build Bridges That Empower Families

Do you believe that strong family connections are the key to student success? LaAmistad is seeking a Bilingual Parent Liaison to strengthen the bridge between Latino families, schools, and our after school programs. If you're fluent in both Spanish and English and passionate about helping parents feel empowered and engaged, this is your opportunity to make a meaningful difference.

As a Parent Liaison, you'll be the trusted voice families turn to for support, guidance, and resources. From translating communication to helping parents navigate school systems, your work will ensure every family feels seen, informed, and involved in their child's success.

Key Responsibilities

As a Parent Liaison, you will work closely with families, staff, and community partners to improve family engagement and communication at your assigned after school site(s).

Your Core Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for parents and guardians, ensuring consistent and culturally sensitive communication in both English and Spanish.
  • Translate and distribute key information to families and staff (program announcements, schedules, parent updates, school reports, etc.).
  • Assist after school staff and volunteer tutors in managing logistics, communication, and parent needs on site.
  • Help parents understand and navigate school systems and community services.
  • Build meaningful relationships with students' families and support them in addressing educational, behavioral, or social challenges.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records related to parent communication and student needs.
  • Refer families to appropriate external resources or agencies when necessary.
  • Attend and help coordinate meetings, events, and workshops involving families, school staff, or community partners.
  • Support school-home communication and ensure alignment with LaAmistad's mission and goals.
  • Participate in training sessions and team meetings.
  • Requires physical ability to lift up to 30 lbs., walk across campuses, push supply carts, and climb stairs as needed.

A Typical Day Might Look Like:

  • Review messages from parents and translate updates for program staff
  • Help prep for after school sessions; greet parents or school reps as needed
  • Assist with student arrivals and support tutoring sessions on-site
  • Meet with a family about accessing school support services
  • Draft and distribute bilingual parent updates or resource flyers
  • Log records and prep for upcoming parent events or workshops

What Success Looks Like

  • Parents are informed, engaged, and actively participating in their children's education.
  • Volunteers and staff receive clear, bilingual communication support.
  • Students feel supported by a unified network of school, family, and after school advocates.
  • Program records and parent interactions are well-documented and confidentially maintained.
  • Strong trust and cultural understanding are fostered across the community.

  • Experience with tutoring, parent coaching, school systems, or social services
  • Familiarity with the needs of Latino communities and diverse family structures
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings/weekends for events
