Parent Liaison, Special Education
Provides support to parents and schools by implementing policies and coordinating programs to support students with disabilities. Essential duties include selecting and purchasing materials for parent check-out, developing and maintaining a Parent Library, assisting parents with understanding IDEA, Parent Rights and Responsibilities, and building a strong home/school partnership. Coordinates academic-based learning opportunities/workshops for parents, organizes volunteer programs, and recruits and trains volunteers.
Communicates with parents through department newsletters and websites, serves as a liaison between the local school and parents of kids with disabilities, and participates in early release conferences. Calculates and keeps accurate data on parental involvement and parent contacts, submits required documentation to SEC office, and monitors and maintains records required by special education. Conducts professional learning sessions with staff to improve parent involvement, collaborates with staff to coordinate meetings/workshops for parents, and conducts written and oral surveys of parent needs.
Serves as a liaison between school and community for parent involvement purposes, assists parents in accessing community resources, and develops partnerships with other social agencies. Attends regularly scheduled meetings/professional learning as determined by the SEC Department.
Required
Education:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Certification/Licensure:
None required.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of experience working in an educational or social services environment. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of No Child Left Behind Act and the Individuals with Disabilities Act, ability to plan, organize, manage, and implement successful programs, strong interpersonal and public relation skills, ability to relate/interact with various cultures and social groups, ability to solicit resources for District needs, strict confidence in handling sensitive student and parent information, computer literacy, excellent organizational and leadership skills, excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
