The Superior Court of Fulton County Georgia (“Court”) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Behavioral Health Assistant within its Accountability Courts Division. This position will serve as a Peer Mentor to Accountability Court participants. Applicants should hold a CARES (Certified Addiction Recovery Empowerment Specialist) certification or an equivalent peer qualification. CARES certification requires a person to have a minimum of two years of recovery from a Substance Use Disorder.
Superior Court is Georgia's busiest trial court of general jurisdiction. The Court seeks to provide a forum in which legal disputes between citizens can be resolved in a fair and efficient process with attention to equal access, impartiality, efficiency, and safety. After joining the Court, you will become part of a fast-paced team dedicated to providing the citizens of Fulton County with the service they deserve.
EssentialFunctions
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Interviews clients for intake information, including obtaining and documenting client’s history,
maintaining client’s charts, and determining client’s eligibility based on the results of the interview. - Screens, evaluates, and trains potential clients to determine which behavioral health services should be
provided, including developing crisis plans and/or referring clients to other agencies for services. - Performs telephone triage and provides crisis intervention as required.
- Organizes structured program activities to help clients acquire new skills in developing a positive self image
and in solving problems. - Plans and conducts activity therapy groups using crafts.
- Intervenes in crisis situations.
- Conducts home visits and performs other outreach activities to link clients with community resources,
such as food assistance and housing. - Transports clients to necessary medical treatment and/or program-related appointments.
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED required, supplemented by vocational or technical training in a related field,
CARES Certification preferred
; one year of experience in a similar setting; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Licensing Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.

Data Utilization: Requires the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and/or analyze data. Includes exercising discretion in determining data classification, and in referencing such analysis to established standards for the purpose of recognizing actual or probable interactive effects and relationships.
Human Interaction: Requires the ability to provide paraprofessional counseling and medical treatment to others.
