Software Engineer II - Marketing Technology & Messaging

CNN is hiring a Software Developer II to join the Marketing Technology and Messaging team. This is an opportunity to build engaging digital products balancing company goals and great user experience. CNN is building new digital products, such as direct‑to‑consumer subscription products, features for a premium news experience, and new technologies to reach global audiences. You will be part of a cross‑functional team focused on enhancing the editorial and end‑user experience on  The team includes Technical, Design, and Product leads and engineers. Your role will involve feature development, quality code, peer reviews, and operational support.

• Full‑stack development with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, incorporating semantic code, accessibility, and responsive design methodologies.
• Owning, implementing, developing, and maintaining high‑priority features with thorough testing.
• Working with a cross‑functional team in an agile environment, contributing to Scrum, Planning, Retrospectives, and Demos.
• Supporting teammates through code reviews, desk checks, and collaboration.
• Seeking mentorship from senior engineers and pairing to resolve complex technical problems efficiently.

• Understanding engineering best practices, design patterns, reviews, testing, and alerting.
• Proficiency in modern JavaScript, maintaining and developing components.
• Proficient on the command line with Git, Docker, and AWS.
• Experience with AWS infrastructure as code (Cloud Formation, Terraform), monitoring tools (Cloud Watch, Cloud Trail), and CI/CD tools (Code Pipeline, Code Build, Code Deploy).
• Unit testing experience using frameworks such as Jest, Jasmine, and Mocha.
• Solid understanding of common software data structures and algorithms and hands‑on familiarity with client and server technology.
• Passionate about improving the code base you interact with.
• Demonstrated success in rapidly learning new technologies, languages, or frameworks.
• Familiarity with a wide range of languages, frameworks, platforms, and/or SDKs.
• Excellent communication skills with team members and peers.
• Excited to positively impact CNN culture both interpersonally and through code improvements.

• Experience developing CMS platforms preferred.
• Some Python experience preferred.
• Experience with Vue.js.
• Experience integrating with Marketing Technology vendors, e.g., CDP or user messaging platforms.
• Knowledge of data pipeline technologies (Snowflake/Snowpipe, Kinesis, Postgre
  
  SQL, dbt).
• A/B testing and consumer testing platform experience.
• Knowledge of Operations, CI/CD, Dev Ops, and exposure to escalation protocols, Pager Duty, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Code Pipeline, etc.
• Experience with alerting mechanisms and tools.
