Position Overview
Regional Medical Lead (RML) is a key leader in Otsuka’s customer engagement strategy, responsible for developing and executing the regional strategic business plan, aligning medical and commercial priorities, and providing the primary medical point of contact for top regional decision makers and influencers.
Key Activities and Responsibilities- Contribute to the region strategic business plan that addresses regional, local, and customer challenges, issues, and opportunities, and drive execution of field activities.
- In partnership with the Senior Business Director, establish and manage senior stakeholder and C‑suite relationships across the region to understand needs and uncover insights and opportunities for medical collaboration.
- Develop a deep understanding of the regional ecosystem, including health systems, centers of excellence, key influencers, decision makers, and payers, and maintain alignment with Otsuka’s patient‑centric strategy and priorities.
- Serve as the primary medical point of contact for top decision makers and influencers, co‑creating, prioritizing, planning, and implementing mutually beneficial initiatives aligned with business priorities.
- Assess educational needs of the region from a customer perspective and ensure resources are deployed to meet those needs from a product and disease‑state approach.
- Provide field leadership and managerial oversight to ensure MSLs focus on key institutions, influencers, and decision makers aligned to business priorities.
- Maintain and engage a list of the most influential regional customers through MSLs.
- Identify regional evidence generation needs that align with local priorities in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
- Track the region’s customer experience, formally and informally, and use this information to enhance engagement and medical strategy.
- Represent customer needs, insights, and knowledge to other parts of Otsuka, including senior leadership and internal partners (e.g., disease‑area strategy team, brand medical teams, health outcomes research team).
- Identify and facilitate training for regional colleagues and beyond to ensure competence in the evolving market and healthcare landscape.
- Develop and track metrics across all medical portfolio activities, including performance/outcomes metrics and collaboration.
- Identify opportunities through analytics and ongoing business reviews, using agile approaches to adapt medical plans as required.
- Provide coaching and feedback to MSLs within the region.
- Create and foster a culture that is collaborative, patient‑centric, centered on experimentation and innovation, and empowers teams to act.
- Advanced degree in Pharmacy, Medicine, or Biological Sciences (Pharm.
D., M.D., D.O., or Ph.D.) – strongly preferred. - 7–10 years of experience providing strategic leadership across therapeutic and cross‑functional teams, with evidence of successful partnership with customers and achievement of shared goals and outcomes.
- Proven ability to develop, communicate, and implement strategy across complex healthcare environments, influencing without authority and mobilizing colleagues around shared objectives.
- Understanding of health‑system interconnectivity, overall patient‑care delivery, and solutions oriented to improved patient outcomes.
- Ability to comprehend complex scientific, medical, and business issues and apply analytical skills to identify key barriers or success factors.
- Commitment to ongoing development of self and others to achieve potential and deliver ambitious goals.
- Strong ability to lead, influence, and collaborate in a matrixed environment, operating under ambiguity without a set playbook.
- Field role with willingness to travel up to 70% of the time.
