Application Developer II Job Summary
The Developer II, Application for Construction Technology position within Gas Technology Delivery will work with limited supervision to design and develop custom applications to support the Construction Technology portfolio utilized by Southern Company Gas as well as build and support Southern Company Gas COTS applications. It is expected that this resource is a subject matter expert with deep technical knowledge within the Construction Technology area.
This role will complete projects which will include standard development using a variety of languages, web-based technologies, cognitive services, and integration technologies.
This role reports to the Supervisor, IT (Construction).
Development Sr, Application – Essential Duties Include- Develop solutions that leverage COTS systems rather than customization.
- Create and drive completion of Technical Design documents.
- Collaborate with junior team members to plan for coding and overall program development.
- Translate specifications to create code that meets performance expectations and coding requirements.
- Modify existing software to correct errors, adapt to new hardware, or upgrade interfaces and improve performance based on specifications, with supervision.
- Troubleshoot, debug, maintain and improve existing software.
- Plan and participate in system testing as required.
- Develop technological solutions and corresponding documentation for highly complex problems using deep technical expertise and creativity.
- Plan and participate in deployment activities to implement designed solutions.
- Maintain and follow production support processes focused on identification and mitigation of root cause.
- Flex to meet customer demands (production support and project work).
- Prioritize work and deliver on project commitments.
- Provide on‑call support both solving issues independently and assisting other personnel.
- Support and mentor less experienced personnel.
- Demonstrate considerable interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
- Ensure strategies are aligned with Technology Organization goals and strategies.
- Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science or a related field.
- A deep, comprehensive knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle and development principles.
- Interest in and passion for learning and working in a fast‑paced environment.
- A deep understanding of construction practices and related tools and applications.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments and conflicting priorities.
- Ability to work with business partners and peers of varying levels of technical proficiency.
- Experience with projects of various sizes, enhancement projects and production support.
- Ability to identify root cause for routine problems while working with other technical staff.
- Deep experience creating Technical Design Documents and Specifications.
- Deep experience with TO software development projects.
- Ability to develop unit testing of code components or complete applications.
- Experience in system development practices, methodology and tools.
- Experience with .Net and Angular.
- Experience with Agile delivery;
Kanban;
Scrum. - Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to provide on‑call support both solving issues independently and assisting less experienced on‑call personnel.
- Advanced understanding of various technical principles, theories and concepts.
- Broad understanding of a wide range of technical areas.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to translate complex or technical ideas into non‑technical language.
- Experience with Oracle, MSSQL Server database services, messaging services.
- Experience with ITIL processes and various programming languages.
