U.S. Soccer Overview

The U.S. Soccer Federation exists in service to soccer. Our aim is to ignite a national passion for the game. Because we believe that soccer is more than a sport; it is a force for good.

We understand the importance and the power of teamwork, on and off the pitch. That is why we work closely with our Federation partners and members, to inspire, support and guide every level of the game: from the grassroots to the National Teams. We want to bring soccer into every home and every community, right across America. Because we believe that soccer can transform lives like no other sport.

Soccer can represent the best of U.S.

U.S. Soccer is in a period of significant growth, with ambitious plans for U.S. Soccer in the near and far future. We are, therefore, looking for dynamic servant leaders to join us on this journey: in service to soccer. Applicants must be able to demonstrate visionary leadership, analytical decision-making, professional flexibility, and an empathic management style that builds bold teams and delivers globally significant results.

Position

Description

The Product Designer will own the design of U.S. Soccer's mobile application, the iOS and Android experience that connects members, fans, and participants to the game across the country. Reporting to the Director of Product, this individual will own the end-to-end mobile design experience and serve as the design lead for the app, setting up the bar for craft, usability, and brand expression on a platform that touches our community every day.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on designer with a deep understanding of native mobile design patterns, strong craft, and a genuine interest in the people behind the product. They will partner closely with product management, engineering, brand, and stakeholders across the Federation to define the mobile vision and ship experiences end to end, while helping evolve the mobile component of U.S. Soccer's broader design system.

Primary

Responsibilities
  • Own the design of U.S. Soccer's mobile application across iOS and Android, owning the experience from vision through launch and ongoing iteration
  • Define the design direction for the app, including information architecture, core flows, navigation patterns, and visual language
  • Translate complex requirements from across the Federation into clear, intuitive mobile experiences
  • Apply native iOS and Android design patterns and platform conventions while maintaining a coherent U.S. Soccer brand experience across both platforms
  • Conduct user research with members, fans, and Federation staff and translate findings into product decisions
  • Partner with product and engineering to define the mobile roadmap, prioritize tradeoffs, and shape what gets built
  • Contribute to and extend the mobile app design system, ensuring consistency, accessibility, and scalability across iOS and Android
  • Collaborate closely with mobile engineers throughout implementation, supporting design QA on real devices and balancing craft with delivery timelines
  • Design for real-world conditions including variable connectivity, push notifications, and a wide range of device sizes
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of expertise, or equivalent professional experience
  • 2+ years of professional product design experience, with a meaningful portion focused on shipping native mobile applications (iOS, Android, or both)
  • A portfolio demonstrating strong visual design, interaction design, and end-to-end mobile product thinking
  • Strong working knowledge of Apple Human Interface Guidelines and Material Design, and an understanding of when to follow platform conventions versus when to depart from them
  • Proficiency in Figma, including building and maintaining mobile components, variants, and tokens, and creating prototypes that communicate motion and interaction
  • Demonstrated ability to drive design work independently and lead the design direction of a product or major feature area
  • General knowledge of soccer
  • Capable of working in fast-paced and demanding environments
  • Must be able to connect the "micro" details to the "macro" vision and mission

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience as the lead or sole designer on a consumer-facing mobile app
  • Background working with video-heavy content, real-time data, or content-rich feeds in a mobile context
  • Demonstrated strategic hustle and work ethic with diversity of thought
  • Familiarity with mobile accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA, Voiceover, Talkback, Dynamic Type) and designing for low-bandwidth or older-device contexts
  • Familiarity with WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards and designing for low-bandwidth or older-device contexts
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to a mobile design system as a maintainer
  • Comfort with motion design and prototyping tools beyond Figma (e.g., Principle, After Effects, or Lottie)
  • Background in, and passion for, soccer, sports, or membership-based organizations.
