About Local NowLocal Now is a free, ad-supported streaming service delivering local news, weather, sports, and lifestyle programming to viewers across virtually every connected device. As part of Allen Media Group, we operate at meaningful scale across mobile, smart TVs, streaming sticks, set-top boxes, and the web. We are now investing in a ground-up rebuild of our streaming platform with a privacy-first architecture, modern shared-code strategy, and the engineering rigor needed to grow sustainably.
We build for audiences who expect frictionless playback on any device, and for advertisers who depend on us to deliver reliable, high-quality monetization. The work is tangible: every improvement we make is felt by millions of viewers.
The RoleWe are hiring a Privacy Engineer to help build and coordinate the technical privacy posture of our streaming platform. This is fundamentally a full-stack software engineering role — one where a strong builder becomes the go-to owner of the privacy patterns, plumbing, and coordination work that make our platform trustworthy across every surface.
You do not need to have spent your entire career in privacy engineering to succeed here. What we need is a capable full-stack engineer who has worked meaningfully across backend and frontend systems, cares about doing right by users, and is energized by coordinating consent, data-handling, and compliance-adjacent work across a wide array of systems. Deeper privacy specialists are very welcome to apply — but the baseline is a solid full-stack engineer with a data-and-privacy lean.
WhatYou Will Do
Build and evolve consent management plumbing across our client apps and backend services — consent capture, canonical representation, propagation to services and third-party SDKs, and honoring at the edges.
Contribute to the technical pipeline for data subject access requests (DSARs): intake, verification, fulfillment, and audit trail.
Help maintain a living data inventory: what personal data we collect, where it lives, how it flows, and who it is shared with.
Implement PII-handling patterns — data minimization, pseudonymization, retention, secure deletion — and help other engineers adopt them without needing to become privacy experts themselves.
Partner with the ad-tech and monetization stack to ensure advertising signal collection, , and downstream sharing respect user consent and applicable regulations.
Review third-party SDKs and vendor integrations for privacy impact; recommend acceptance, mitigation, or replacement.
Coordinate with Legal and Compliance to translate regulatory requirements (CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, VCDPA, and emerging state privacy laws) into concrete engineering work and defensible technical controls.
Coordinate the privacy architecture across a wide array of systems — client apps, backend services, data pipelines, ad-tech, and vendor integrations — so that decisions in one place stay consistent everywhere else.
Instrument and monitor privacy signals in production; build the tooling that lets us catch drift early and prove our posture over time.
Serve as a practical advisor to feature teams so that privacy-by-design is realistic under delivery pressure.
What We Are Looking For4+ years of full-stack software engineering experience shipping production code across backend and frontend systems.
Strong backend fundamentals — services, APIs, data pipelines, and storage — combined with practical frontend experience on CTV, web, or mobile.
Meaningful exposure to data privacy, security, or compliance-adjacent engineering work.…
