Engineering Development Program
Innovative thinking, creative problem-solving, and a determination to challenge the status-quo, these are some of the defining qualities for participants of our Engineering Development Program (EDP). The EDP is a one-year program where you will be placed in one of the four designated Engineering tracks:
Software, Data, Cybersecurity or Infrastructure & Cloud. Each track is designed to grow and develop your technical and self-leadership skills. Within your assigned track, you will receive a combination of hands-on opportunities, an immersive learning journey, and a mentoring program to prepare you for a dynamic career. You will have the opportunity to explore multiple technologies while learning from different engineers within Travelers.
Our five-week long technical learning accelerator consists of a mix of classroom, independent, and hands-on learning that is designed to fine-tune your skills and introduce you to Travelers technology. The accelerator focuses on providing you valuable training on multiple tools and technologies, but from a Travelers perspective. You will also learn about our software development lifecycle, enterprise engineering environments, artificial intelligence-enhanced practices, and working with Agile methodologies.
As an EDP participant, you will model the way for others and set a personal example of what is expected. You will positively challenge processes, embrace change, actively listen to and support diverse points of view, and celebrate the success of others. Travelers offers a hybrid work location model designed to support flexibility. You are a self-starter who goes beyond required job or educational commitments to explore new technologies, applications, and environments.
You take strong ownership of your actions, performance, and outcomes, proactively managing your time while juggling multiple projects simultaneously. You collaborate effectively and maintain a positive attitude whether working independently or as part of a team. You also demonstrate strong analytical aptitude—identifying current or future problems and opportunities, synthesizing and comparing data, recognizing cause-and-effect relationships, and exploring alternative solutions to support sound decision-making.
Will You Do?
Travelers' Software Engineers contribute to the overall software design strategy by planning, developing, debugging, testing, troubleshooting, documenting, and implementing software solutions that enable our products, distribution workflows, customer, agent, and employee experiences. EDP participants in this track will have duties that vary based on the specific opportunities presented within each experience. These experiences include leveraging modern software engineering and analytic tools and practices, design, deliver, and support state-of-the-art and high performing infrastructure platforms and services enabling business operations and technology solutions.
You will leverage modern analytical and artificial intelligence (AI) tools/platforms, applying critical thinking to evaluate the limitations, quality, and accuracy of AI-assisted outputs. Additional program components include mentoring, networking, and career guidance. Please note that occasional travel for business meetings and events is an expectation of program participants. Perform other duties as assigned.
Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater preferred. Suggested majors include (but not limited to):
Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related discipline. Exposure to object-oriented programming (OOP) in one or more major languages.
Experience with algorithms, data structures, systems design, and networking. Knowledge of APIs and Web Development i.e. use of RESTful APIs, GraphQL, Eventing and modern front-end technologies such as React, NextJS, etc. Familiarity with relational databases and SQL, as well as an awareness of No
SQL/document database concepts.
Bachelor's or Master's degree or completion of licensed/accredited technical bootcamp.
