Job Description RoleThe Lead eCommerce Engineer provides hands-on technical leadership for an engineering pod owning a major area of the platform. This role combines full-stack engineering (React front-end, Java back-end), platform ownership on large-scale commerce systems, and day-to-day technical mentorship and escalation.
Key Responsibilities- Lead technical design, planning, and delivery of features for the pod, ensuring alignment with architecture and business priorities
- Break down complex initiatives into well-scoped technical work streams and guide the team through implementation
- Serve as primary escalation for complex technical issues, production incidents, and cross-team dependencies
- Remain hands-on across front-end, back-end services, and integrations, modeling best practices
- Drive platform-level decisions for enterprise commerce platforms (e.g., Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Web Sphere Commerce)
- Partner with the eCommerce Architect on integration patterns, service boundaries, and technical standards
- Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and technical mentorship to engineers
- Drive adoption of engineering best practices: code review standards, automated testing, CI/CD, and observability
- Establish guidelines for responsible use of AI-assisted development tools and lead root cause analysis for production issues
- Communicate technical progress, risks, and trade-offs to senior stakeholders
- 7-10 years of professional software development experience with demonstrated full-stack expertise
- 1-3 years of technical or team leadership experience (lead/staff responsibilities)
- Expert-level proficiency with React and modern front-end architecture
- Strong Java back-end development and architecture experience
- Experience leading technical design discussions, code reviews, and Agile/Scrum delivery at the team level
- Deep, hands-on experience with enterprise eCommerce platforms such as Salesforce Commerce Cloud or Web Sphere Commerce
- Experience with platform migrations, replatforming, or modernization on enterprise commerce platforms
- Practical experience integrating AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Git Hub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) into a team’s workflow
- Familiarity with microservices, headless/composable commerce architectures, and cloud-native deployments (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Track record of mentoring engineers into senior and lead-level roles
- Strong communication skills and ability to present technical plans to senior technology leadership

- Occasional travel required: up to 5% (vendor sites, industry conferences)
