This position is responsible for scheduling client trips within the Public Transit department through direct communications with the general public and required department staff. The Public Transit dispatcher ensures the accurate scheduling of client trips, dissemination of general information to the public, communication with drivers and recording of daily receipts.
The work is typically performed with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, stooping or lifting heavy objects.
Contacts are typically with members of the general public and co-workers.
High school diploma or equivalent is required with a minimum work history of two years or more in dispatching preferred. Valid State of Georgia driver’s license required.
Nature and ScopeThe nature of the work is to provide general information to the public and administrative support for the Public Transit programs. Provision of accurate and timely information to the public increases likelihood of utilization of the services and promotes a positive image of the department. Efficient performance of program duties contributes to the internal operations of the department and to successful delivery of services.
PrincipalAccountabilities
- Answer general information and scheduling requests from the public.
- Schedule client trips, input data, and answer phones for the Public Transit system.
- Dispatch and efficiently communicate by two-way radio and use of third-party dispatching software with
- drivers in the field.
- Use specialized dispatching software to input client and route information.
- Work closely with the Department Supervisor to accurately report and deliver services.
- Inform the Department Supervisor on public inquiries, and report public concerns generated in the course
- of business.
- Maintain a safe working area.
- Maintain a record system of ride requests, client information and cash collections pertaining to the Public
- Transit Department.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- General knowledge of the geography of the service area.
- Knowledge of Public Transit departmental guidelines.
- Knowledge of scheduling software.
- Knowledge of MS Office software.
- Ability to operate two-way radio.
- Ability to accurately enter data into required software.
- Ability to express ideas and information orally and in writing.
- Ability to multi- task in a fast-paced environment.
High school diploma or equivalent is required with a minimum work history of two years or more in dispatching preferred. Valid State of Georgia driver’s license required.
A combination of education and/or work experience may be substituted for minimum requirements.
