Job Summary

Responsible for ensuring aircraft and weather conditions are airworthy to transport medical crew and patients to receiving hospitals within an assigned operational area. Must comply with Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR), Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM), General Operations Manual (GOM), and Air Methods policies.

Responsibilities
  • Operate Air Methods aircraft in a safe and legal manner.
  • Complete pre‑flight checks, signing off of the Daily Flight Log and performing a thorough walk‑around before entering the cockpit.
  • Serve as final authority on aircraft operations and the safety of passengers, cargo, and equipment.
  • Be thoroughly familiar with all aircraft and medical systems on the operational aircraft and ensure the medical flight team is comfortable with the interior and systems.
  • Complete required documentation.
  • Conduct detailed flight planning on short notice to exacting standards.
  • Participate regularly in Air Methods meetings, activities, committees, and community outreach.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
  • Regular scheduled attendance (7/7 schedule – 12‑hour shifts).
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Compensation

Compensation commensurate with flight and EMS experience, starting from $82,900 per year.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must satisfy each essential function satisfactorily. Air Methods will provide reasonable accommodations that do not create an undue burden so disabled employees may perform the essential functions of the position.

Education & Experience
  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school plus two to five years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Operation and Safety Requirements
  • Maintain a weight not to exceed 250 pounds and be under 70 years of age.
Skills
  • Flown in category for a commercial operator or in the military within the previous 24 months.
  • Maintain positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues, EMS representatives, hospitals, and the public, fostering a friendly and professional working environment.
Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) Program
  • 2,500 total flight hours with a minimum of 2,000 hours in category.
  • 1,000 hours PIC in category.
  • 500 hours turboprop time.
  • 500 hours of cross‑country flight time, 100 hours of night flight time.
  • 75 hours of actual or simulated instrument time, at least 50 hours of flight in an aircraft, including 20 hours in actual instrument conditions in category.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Commercial & Instrument rating for category and class of aircraft.
  • ATP rating in category meets this requirement.
  • First or Second Class FAA Medical certificate required.

This position is subject to drug and/or alcohol testing per the DOT/FAA requirements (pre‑employment, random, reasonable cause/suspicion, post‑accident).
