Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide direct support, management and leadership to all Bus Managers within the transportation zone.
    • Lead, grow and develop Bus Managers through implementation of the GCPS performance management and evaluation framework.
    • Provide daily oversight and management of operations, extending front-line support to drivers as needed.
    • Act as the front-line avenue for all communication to the Bus Managers, including operational changes, policy or procedure updates, and all downstream communication from district and transportation leadership.
    • Manage employee issues including tardiness, absenteeism, late call-outs, and employee relations disputes.
    • Plan, coordinate, and conduct monthly zone meetings and develop presentations.
    • Provide intensive support to new Bus Managers released from training, ensuring that appropriate support is made available.
  • Ensure the safety of student transportation services provided.
    • Prioritize the importance of safety in all transportation services through practice, communication, reinforcement and regulation.
    • Provide front-line observation of Bus Managers for reasonable suspicion of drug or alcohol misuse, and respond accordingly as trained.
    • Conduct safety training each month during zone meetings.
    • Schedule, observe and evaluate emergency evacuation drills.

      Notify Bus Managers of selection for random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Coordinate transportation route planning, coverage, and contingency plans.
    • Make daily adjustments to routes, schedules, and driver assignments based on absences, late call-outs, breakdowns and other factors.
    • Ensure that all student transportation routes in the zone are covered and that students will be delivered to school on time each day, including the scheduling of double-backs and combining routes.
    • Coordinate adjustments to routes as needed and coordinate communication of necessary route changes and updated information.
    • Determine the safest possible location for all planned bus stops.
  • Serve as the front-line point of communication for transportation operations, interfacing with local school staff and administration, community members, law enforcement officials, and parents of GCPS students.
    • Communicate with local school staff and administration on all issues related to transportation operations, including planning for upcoming school year operations and sharing updates or changes.
    • Serve as the front-line point-of-contact for escalated issues involving parents of GCPS students and/or community members, using de-escalation and problem solving skills to reach resolution as needed.
    • Coordinate with law enforcement officials in the event of accidents or issues requiring their involvement.
    • Provide communication and training to school staff on routing software, allowing them to access the school's routing information.
