Summary
Operates school buses safely in all weather conditions. Transports students and authorized persons to and from school on regular, special education, and Magnet routes. Provides extracurricular trips as authorized by the local school system.
Key Responsibilities- Operate the vehicle safely and efficiently on routes prescribed by the Transportation Department.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip inspection of the vehicle and any special equipment.
- Maintain orderly conduct of student passengers.
- Report unsafe acts or conditions requiring attention of a person other than the driver.
- Operate vehicle in accordance with the laws of Georgia and policies of the state and local board of education.
- Provide maximum safety for passengers while on the bus and during loading/unloading.
- Maintain routes and schedules as planned by local school system personnel.
- Deliver bus to maintenance facility as directed by schedule, supervisory personnel, or maintenance personnel.
- Conduct emergency evacuation drills as required by local school system.
- Complete legible and accurate required reports in prescribed manner.
- Keep the assigned bus clean and sanitary at all times.
- Communicate effectively with school staff and public.
- Attend all safety meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.

Certification / LicensureMust have a valid CDL B with Passenger, Air Brake, and School Bus endorsements.
Successful completion of pre‑employment and random drug testing.
Successful completion of pre‑employment physical.
Annual physical examination with result clearance.
Must successfully complete abbreviated Bus Driver Training Program provided by Fulton County Schools Transportation Department.
ExperienceMinimum of 2 years driving experience. Exemplary driving record: no more than 2 moving violations in current 7‑year driving history.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities- Excellent driving record.
- Dependability.
- Good communication skills both written and verbal.
- Extreme weather conditions: heat, cold, wet, humid.
- Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Risk of electrical shock.
- Sitting for prolonged periods.
- Lifting, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching.
- Upper and lower body mobility.
- Ability to lift equipment and/or students weighing up to 40 pounds.
