Job Description

MARTA is seeking professional, customer-friendly full-time bus operators, specifically for the upcoming public hiring event on December 18, 2025. Applicants should have a Georgia CDL or CDL permit, a high school diploma or equivalent, be at least 21 years old, and possess knowledge or willingness to learn the motor vehicle code and general operation conditions. Prior customer service experience or commercial driving experience is preferred.

Qualifications & Certifications
  • Mandatory:
    Georgia CDL license (Class A or B with Passenger endorsement) or valid CDL learner’s permit.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age 21.
  • Knowledge of general vehicle operation or the ability to learn.
  • Knowledge of the Georgia Motor Vehicle Code or willingness to learn.
  • Exceptional customer service skills; at least one year of direct customer service and/or prior commercial bus, taxi, or limousine driving experience preferred.
  • Maximum of one moving violation with up to three points in the last 24 months.
  • No DUI violations within the past five years.
  • Dependable transportation to report to work.
Special Requirements
  • A valid Georgia CDL or CDL learner’s permit. CDL holders must bring a current valid license (Class A or B with P endorsement). CDL permit holders must obtain a valid license within three weeks of the candidate’s training program; otherwise they will not be eligible.
Interview & Selection Process

The selection process may include practical demonstrations, written communications, oral interviews, and/or competency assessments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Drive and operate a commercial passenger bus, transport passengers to and from scheduled stops, announce major stops, transfer points, and other announcements as required.
  • Collect fares, validate passes and identification, use electronic fare registering and collection equipment, and handle funds responsibly.
  • Assist disabled passengers in boarding, riding, and alighting; operate wheelchair lifts or scooters, and secure equipment in accordance with ADA.
  • Maintain a safe work environment; conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, document findings, and promptly engage Bus Operations Control Center, MARTA Police, or other authorities as needed.
  • Prepare and submit accident and incident reports timely.
  • Use the vehicle locator to communicate with equipment failures, schedule delays, hazardous or dangerous conditions, including traffic, road conditions, obstructions, construction, or potential criminal activity.
  • Perform other assigned tasks as requested.

Internal applicants will undergo a record evaluation to determine eligibility. Candidates may be disqualified for any of the following during the 12‑month period preceding the posting date: excessive tardies, absenteeism, disciplinary actions, or customer complaints. Successful completion of the probationary period is required.
