Job DescriptionQualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Working knowledge of repair and maintenance of school buses.
- Must have a CDL with passenger and school bus certificate.
- Must have a current driver’s license.
- Be insurable with our insurance company and maintain status.
- Work experience on school buses highly desired.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Background Check
Required:
(Ala. Code §§ 16-22A-5) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks must not be more than 10 years old.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Diagnosis of failures and problems in various vehicle units, such as transmission, engines, electrical systems, exhaust systems, etc.
- Performs major overhaul and repair work on various school vehicles (primarily school buses).
- Must be able to obtain certification by the State Department of Transportation as a mechanic.
- Complies with safety requirements.
- Keep records of time, materials, parts, and work performed in accordance with department policy.
- Participates in on-the-job and other formal and informal training and orientation programs.
- Performs duties as assigned.
- This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Madison City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Madison City Schools.
- Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30.
Expected Employment
: 240 days/8 hrs. (full year)

Salary
:
According to Madison City Schools Salary Schedule (Salary based on employment for complete year). Up to 10 years experience will be counted for new employees who provide documentation of full-time experience in the area of concentration.
