About the Role

As a Cemetery Caretaker, you'll play an important role in maintaining the appearance, grounds, and respectful atmosphere of the cemetery while supporting burial and cremation-related services. You'll perform a variety of groundskeeping and facility maintenance tasks, assist with interments and other cemetery services, and learn to operate crematory equipment as part of the role.

This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys hands-on responsibilities, and is comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions. You'll work closely with the Cemetery and Crematory Director and other funeral service professionals to help ensure cemetery and crematory operations are conducted safely, respectfully, and efficiently.

Cemetery & Grounds Maintenance

  • Maintain cemetery grounds, including grass, shrubs, trees, and landscaped areas
  • Operate and maintain hand tools and power equipment, including lawn mowers, weed trimmers, leaf blowers, shovels, rakes, and other equipment
  • Fill, tamp, seed, and sod graves as needed
  • Maintain clean, orderly, and well-kept work areas
  • Perform general groundskeeping and facility maintenance duties

Burial & Cemetery Services

  • Perform openings and closings for burials, entombments, and interments
  • Set, install, and assemble memorials and markers
  • Install burial vault containers
  • Assist with cremation-related services, including inurnments and disinterments
  • Support cemetery services with professionalism, care, and respect for the grieving process

Crematory Operations

  • Learn and operate crematory equipment and machinery
  • Support day-to-day crematory operations as assigned
  • Follow established safety, operational, and service standards
  • Maintain a clean and orderly crematory work environment

What You’ll Bring

Required Qualifications

  • Strong work ethic, reliability, maturity, and attention to detail
  • Willingness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme cold, snow, rain, and heat
  • Willingness and ability to learn crematory operations and equipment
  • Ability to safely use and maintain hand tools and power equipment
  • Ability to perform physical work, including frequent standing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record
  • A respectful and professional approach to working in a funeral and cemetery environment
