Overview

The Foreman role works within and leads a vegetation management crew. The Foreman operates either a bucket truck or other machines, leads training and development of trimmers and grounds men, and enforces safety and operational practices. This role assumes responsibility for maintenance and accuracy of attendance and safety records. The Foreman communicates with customers, property owners, and the general public. The Foreman reports to the General Foreman and remains compliant with safety procedures as administered by the Safety Leader.

Responsibilities
  • Lead vegetation management crews.
  • Ensure utility specifications are followed.
  • Coordinate with General Foreman.
  • Pre-inspect projects and develop recommended management plans, matching labor and equipment resources to work and cost estimates.
  • Maintain accurate project circuit maps noting project status, crew locations and estimated completion dates.
  • Inspect crews, start/stop times and identification of project shop locations.
  • Audit time sheets for accuracy.
  • Assist with customer notifications and customer complaints.
  • Preview work assignments and conduct post-work critiques for each crew.
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of tools and supplies to support crews.
  • Coordinate activities with the General Foreperson and utility to ensure customer requirements are achieved.
  • This is a minimum 40 hour work week.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Must have field experience as vegetation management crew member.
  • Must have the ability to evaluate circuit conditions and hours required to complete required clearances to utility specifications.
  • Must have computer knowledge and be able to write reports.
  • Must be able to communicate with various levels of field and management personnel and handle written/verbal communications.
  • Conscious of safety due to hazardous equipment and be able to maintain attention for extended periods.
  • Must wear necessary PPE and safely operate company vehicle.
  • Must be able to enter and exit a vehicle several times daily and work in various weather and terrains.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend written and verbal job instructions and communicate professionally.
  • Must be able to work long hours and overtime during emergencies (including holidays, weekends).
  • Must have knowledge of heavy equipment and transportation to show up location; willing to travel out of state for emergency storm work.
  • Ability to meet DOT medical certification requirements and obtain a valid DOT Medical Card within 2 weeks from start date; pass pre-employment drug screen; pass background check and MVR; valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to withstand weather exposure; stand for extended periods; physical energy, twisting, lifting; and hand-eye coordination.
  • Uses machines and tools including chainsaws and hydraulic tools as required.

  • Field experience as vegetation management crew member.
  • Ability to evaluate circuit conditions and hours required for clearances to utility specifications.
  • Computer literacy; ability to write reports.
  • Strong communication and professional conduct; ability to handle confrontations.
