Responsibilities

Do you have experience in building maintenance and enjoy keeping facilities safe, clean, and ready for events? The Augusta Civic Center is seeking a full-time Maintenance Operations Worker to support our public auditorium and function spaces. In this hands-on role, you’ll perform custodial and maintenance tasks, assist with event setup and teardown, operate equipment safely, and help oversee part-time facilities maintenance staff.

This position requires knowledge of maintenance tools and equipment, a keen eye for safety, and the ability to work independently while providing excellent customer service. Join a team that keeps Augusta’s Civic Center ready for every event!

Qualifications

High school diploma (or equivalent) and at least two years of building maintenance experience are required, along with a valid Maine driver’s license. Forklift certification is a plus. Must be available to work evenings, overnight hours (after events), and weekends. This position requires a non-standard schedule, including 2nd or 3rd shifts, with flexibility to accommodate events and operational needs.

Benefits and Details

This full-time (40 hours/week), non-exempt hourly position offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package. Starting pay ranges from $21.89 to $24.69 per hour depending on experience and qualifications. Employees receive an annual cost of living adjustment (COLA) and step increases as outlined in the Teamsters Local 340 union contract. The City covers 80% of health, dental, and vision premiums and provides a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) to help offset the health plan deductible, plus an annual medical FSA contribution of $350.

Employees with alternative equivalent health coverage are eligible for an annual medical buyout ($2,400 - $3,600 based on eligibility). The City participates in the Maine

PERS Plan AC, a defined benefit retirement plan (employees do not pay into Social Security). Paid time off includes vacation, sick leave, and 13 holidays per year. Additional benefits include life insurance, short-term disability, 457(b) retirement plan, tuition reimbursement, and more.
