Job Summary

Riverview Psychiatric Center is recruiting an Institutional Maintenance Mechanic. Position will be located in Augusta, Maine, with opening date June 1, 2026 and closing date June 15, 2026.

Job Class Code: 8279 | Grade: 16 | Salary: $18.15 – $24.71 per hour (includes a $0.60 per hour institutional stipend). The position is not eligible for visa sponsorship or STEM OPT extensions.

Perform a wide variety of mechanical tasks in installation, general repair, and maintenance of heating, power generating, water, and electrical systems. Provide maintenance and repair for laundry, kitchen, and farm machinery and equipment. Conduct general maintenance of the building and grounds. Supervise assigned helpers, typically patients, under general supervision.

• Two (2) years’ experience in general maintenance and repair of machinery, equipment, mechanical systems, and buildings.

• 13 paid holidays, 12 days of sick leave, and 3+ weeks of vacation leave annually (vacation accrual increases with years of service; overtime‑exempt employees receive personal leave).
• Health insurance coverage – State pays 85%–100% of employee‑only premiums (annual approximate value $12,845.82‑$15,112.76). Health insurance premium credit decreases employee‑only premiums by 5%.
• Dental insurance – State pays 100% of employee‑only dental premiums (annual value $395.72).
• Retirement plan – State contributes 14.11% of the employee’s pay toward Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS).
• Six weeks of fully paid parental leave for employees welcoming a child (including non‑birthing and adoptive parents). Additional unpaid leave may be available under the Family and Medical Leave Act.
