This is maintenance and personal services work of a supervisory nature in performing and overseeing the transport, operation, maintenance and repair of a variety of automotive, grounds, and construction equipment to support grounds maintenance, improvement, and emergency projects at state or government facilities. Supervision is exercised over employees performing work on related projects and work tasks. Work is performed under limited supervision.
- Transports, operates, maintains, and repairs, heavy vehicles and equipment statewide.
- Develops, assigns, and oversees preventative maintenance programs for assigned vehicles and equipment to maximize vehicle and equipment availability and safety.
- Maintains vehicle and equipment logs to ensure appropriate parts and supply inventory levels.
- Researches and prepares specifications for vehicle and equipment purchase orders to obtain required vehicles and equipment.
- Provides detailed bills of materials and courses of action for proposed projects and work requests.
- Ensures sites and facilities meet required standards for safety and environmental compliance.
- Performs site work and repairs at various state or government facilities, including emergency repairs, site clearing, grading and culvert installation.
- Schedules and oversees grounds maintenance activities to ensure grounds meet established standards.
- Schedules and oversees snow and trash removal to ensure trafficability and cleanliness of grounds.
- Implements and complies with human resource laws, policies, procedures and practices such as: AA/EEO, recruitment, employment, position classification, performance appraisals, training, discipline, contract administration, human resources components of security protocols of agency information security and confidentiality policies, and employee safety.
- Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge of operation and maintenance of a variety of automotive, grounds, and construction equipment.
- Knowledge of construction, earthwork and landscaping practices.
- Knowledge of inventory control methods.

- Ability to transport, operate, maintain and repair heavy vehicles and equipment.
- Ability to maintain adequate supply of parts.
- Ability to plan, schedule, and oversee the work of assigned staff.
- Ability to plan, schedule, perform and oversee the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment.
- Demonstrated experience transporting, operating, maintaining and repairing a variety of automotive, heavy vehicle, grounds, and construction equipment.
- Demonstrated experience performing and supervising grounds construction, maintenance and improvement projects.
- Maine Class A driver’s license.
This must be successfully completed by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class.
