Job Title: Grounds and Nursery II (Lead)

Job SummaryThis unit exists to care for and maintain all grounds areas of the University of Colorado Denver, Anschutz Medical Campus and provide support to the Denver Campus, to provide a safe and attractive atmosphere for working and learning. This work unit also assists with the set up and tears down services for special events as well as disposal service for electronic, furniture, and computer equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Parking and Roads Repair
Develop and maintain a campus parking and roads maintenance and schedule plan for sweeping, striping, crack sealing and improvements of parking lots, shrubs, trees, grass, irrigation, weed control, new project, including frequency of task and expectations.
- Snow Removal
Develop and maintain the campus, parking lots and parking structure, roads, weed control, new project, including frequency of task and expectations. Trash removal, mowing and weed control, snow and ice removal, pothole patching, striping and signage maintenance.
- Team Leadership
Assist the Transportation Maintenance Supervisor with the daily supervision of all Grounds and Nursery I s, as a work leader including assigning tasks, monitoring progress and workflow, checking tasks completion, scheduling work, and establishing work standards.
- Other Duties Assigned
Special events duties including setups and teardowns, emergency situations response, others. Participates and assist in emergency based on the magnitude and nature. Support various special events both in participation and during the event (i.e. Commencement) may be assigned other duties as required.
Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Two (2) years of experience in grounds and nursery maintenance or landscaping.
- Colorado law requires that candidates for state government jobs be residents of Colorado at the time of application.
- Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CDL
- Experience in working with contractors.
- Experience working in a team leader position.
- Experience in snow removal, i.e. operating trucks with plows and ice melt sanders.
- Equipment - experience in operating Skid-steer, loaders, or tractors.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Basic or working knowledge of computers and writing skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
- Excellent oral communication skills with the ability to handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively in written form which includes the ability to check for typographical, grammatical and spelling errors.
- Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Physical Ability.
- Computer knowledge.
- Interact with numerous groups and multiple levels of supervisors.
- Strong commitment to safety.
- Positive and strong can-do attitude and self-starter.
- Ability to repair and diagnose minor equipment failure.
