Fitzsimons Innovation Community Facilities Technician

Position Summary

The Facilities Technician plays a key role in maintaining the overall quality, appearance, and functionality of the campus buildings and grounds. This position is responsible for ensuring that all tenant spaces, common areas, and exterior environments are clean, well-maintained, and operating at a high standard on a daily basis.

This role is highly visible and hands-on, focused on responding to tenant needs, completing general maintenance and repairs, and proactively identifying opportunities to improve the condition of the facilities. The Facilities Technician helps create a safe, welcoming, and well-cared-for environment by performing routine inspections, supporting moves and setups, and maintaining building interiors and exteriors.

While the position works in coordination with the Chief Engineer and supports broader building systems as needed, its primary focus is on day-to-day facility upkeep, grounds care and delivering a high-quality experience for tenants and visitors across the campus.

Key Responsibilities

General Facilities Maintenance – 29 hours per week

  • Respond to tenant maintenance requests and perform general facility repairs including painting, cleaning, moving, and minor repairs.
  • Conduct routine building inspections including restrooms, plumbing fixtures, and common areas.
  • Inspect and maintain doors, entryways, ADA operators, and access points.
  • Support furniture moves, conference room setups, and equipment relocations.
  • Maintain cleanliness of grounds and remove debris.

HVAC and Mechanical Systems – 2.5 hours per week

  • Monitor HVAC and BAS systems to ensure proper operation and efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot and repair refrigeration units, compressors, motors, pumps, and related equipment.
  • Inspect and maintain hydronic systems and perform lubrication as needed.
  • Inspect rooftop equipment including exhaust fans, VFDs, motors, belts, and drains.
  • Maintain inventory and inspect safety valves monthly.

Building Automation Systems (BAS) – 2.5 hours per week

  • Monitor BAS systems for performance and operational issues.
  • Diagnose and resolve system issues with the Chief Engineer.
  • Ensure proper control of HVAC and building systems.

Safety and Compliance- 2 hours per week

  • Maintain emergency safety equipment including eyewash stations and showers.
  • Assist with fire life safety inspections including sprinklers, extinguishers, alarms, and pumps.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and applicable regulations.

Inspections and Preventive Maintenance- 2 hours per week

  • Perform routine inspections of garages, lighting, stairwells, and mechanical rooms.
  • Inspect backflow prev enters and seasonal systems.
  • Adjust building control systems as needed.

Documentation- 2 hours per week

  • Maintain detailed maintenance logs and records.
  • Record inspection and preventive maintenance activities.

On-Call Responsibilities

  • Participate in on-call rotation for emergency response.
  • When not on call, avoid BAS system changes to maintain clarity of responsibilities.

Overtime

  • Obtain prior approval from the Chief Engineer before working overtime.

Qualifications

  • Experience in commercial building maintenance or facility operations.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, BAS, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with OSHA and safety standards.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift equipment and tools.
  • Ability to work on rooftops and in mechanical spaces.
  • Ability to walk the full campus daily.
  • Ability to work on ladders and stairs.

Full Time

Aurora, CO

$30-35 an hour based on experience
