The City of Burlington is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Facilities Maintenance Worker.

Hours of Work, Work Environment and Location
  • This position is regular full time, at 40 hours a week. Work hours will typically be 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Occasional weeknight and weekend hours are possible and must be able to be on call for evening and weekend events.
  • Starting wage will be $17.50-$19.50 per hour depending on qualifications, with vacation and sick time benefits included.
  • The Facilities Maintenance Position reports to the Activities Director, Library Director and City Clerk at their respective locations.
  • This job is primarily spent at the Community Center but includes the Library, City Hall and potential other City facilities.
Responsibilities
  • Maintains City facilities in safe, clean, and neat manner.
  • Cleans assigned areas which include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, washing windows, buffing floors, emptying wastebaskets, cleaning & disinfecting restrooms, kitchen, and other duties assigned.
  • Report all facilty damage or necessary repairs to Activities Director, Library Director or City Clerk.
  • Assists in set up and tear down of events, including tables, chairs, stage, pipe and drape.
  • Moves furniture within and among buildings as required by the needs of the City or event.
  • Performs a wide-variety of general maintenance including stripping and waxing floors, painting, minor electrical, minor plumbing, and minor drywall repair.
  • Performs snow removal and throws ice melt as needed to make facilities safe ingress and egress for Community Center guests and customers.
  • Performs routine maintenance on equipment for the Community Center including cleaning of ovens, grill, refrigerator, freezer, ice machine, coffee pots, drains, replaces filters on HVAC units and other equipment as assigned or needed.
  • Performs some clerical duties, as needed, such as answering phones and writing receipts.
  • Aid in recreation programs through the Activities Department as assigned.
  • Perform other related work as requested by the Activities Director.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED certificate. Experience in maintenance work preferred but will train the right candidate.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and customer service skills.
