This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code §51.215. Applications will be reviewed online by the hiring department. This is a swing shift position, 40 hour work week schedule; shift could be between 3:00pm and 1:30am Monday-Friday, hours to be discussed with supervisor.

This position is required to occasionally work on-call. Additionally, this position is entitled to shift differential in the amount of $3,900 per year.
* Performs preventive and repair maintenance on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, steam, and electronic components of environmental control systems and equipment associated with multi-story commercial and lab buildings. This includes maintenance tasks ranging from changing air filters to replacing electric motors on large air handling units.
* Installs replacement coils, motors, electronics, compressors, thermostats, humidistats, fans, and other components of chilled water and direct expansion environmental control systems to include commercial refrigeration and process heating and cooling. Treats hydronic system loops to maintain water quality.
* Utilizes measuring instruments such as multimeters, refrigeration gauges, thermo-hygrometers, etc., and applies principles of thermodynamics and physics to resolve issues.
* Works with a team under the direction of work leaders to solve complex technical issues with HVACR equipment.
* Maintains records and prepares reports on repairs and services according to university and regulatory requirements.
* Reads and interprets drawings and technical manuals. Works from written and oral instructions.
* Participates in the On-Call Program. Completes paperwork accurately and on a timely basis. Keeps accurate and up to date documentation of all systems.
* This position and associated job duties have been designated as essential during extraordinary and emergency situations when the university is closed. Essential personnel must maintain contact with their supervisor and report to work as regularly scheduled unless directed otherwise.
* Required to operate an electronic device such as an iPhone, iPad, or laptop/desktop computer to perform and fulfill time reporting and work management requirements. Work management requirements include receiving work assignments, updating work orders, and other functions as required.
* May be required to work in confined spaces, manholes, tunnels, elevated work, extended shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
* Considerable walking, standing, squatting, stooping, and moving of heavy materials and equipment in all weather conditions.
* May be required to use of personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing duties.
* May be required to pass a physical examination.
* May be exposed to loud noise, high dust and allergen levels.
* May be required to lift up to 50lbs. Often required to twist, grasp, push, pull and bend.
* May be required to operate forklifts, personnel lifts and cranes. Operate job related equipment.
