Purpose

To perform supervisory work in custodial maintenance and related duties. The Building Attendant Leader (BAL) leads the weekend night shift, ensuring proper unlocking and locking of buildings and rooms, custodial cleaning, safety compliance, security procedures, and handling special assignments.

Responsibilities
  • Unlocking/Locking & General Cleaning – Ensure work is performed according to established procedures.
  • Maintain work schedules and ensure staff complete assigned tasks.
  • Provide direction during assignments.
  • Work overtime as required.
  • Serve as on‑duty supervisor for weekend night shift.
  • Assign, schedule, and coordinate work of Building Attendants.
  • Inspect areas to ensure correct and timely completion.
  • Provide clear communication and feedback.
  • Follow all UT policies and custodial procedures.
  • Maintain professional appearance and punctuality.
  • Attend mandatory training.
  • Maintain a positive performance record.
  • Prepare documentation including logs, reports, AiM entries, training records.
  • Meet deadlines; provide coaching or redirection as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Use PPE and safety equipment; follow safety guidelines; report issues.
  • Operate custodial equipment and UT vehicles safely.
  • Maintain a valid Texas Class‑C driver’s license and UT driver rating.
  • Perform Work Orders including event setup and on‑duty support.
  • Respond to emergencies (e.g., floods).
  • Perform mandatory overtime when needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience following basic work instructions.
  • One year of experience in custodial maintenance.
  • Experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Ability to read and understand work orders, instructions, product labels, and other written materials.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Stable work history.
  • Good communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and complete standard forms.
  • Ability to work according to standardized processes.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Experience supervising custodians in an OS‑1 cleaning environment.
