Job Overview

Assist in the supervision of custodial staff performing building cleaning. Perform cleaning work using standardized OS1 cleaning procedures. Half‑time, 20 hours per week, Saturday, Sunday and all University Holidays.

Responsibilities include leading custodial team, inspecting work, conducting general cleaning, securing buildings, operating light‑duty pick‑ups and vans, setting up event linens, and providing on‑duty cleaning support.

Responsibilities
  • Lead custodial staff within all university buildings and ensure work is completed accurately and on time.
  • Perform general cleaning and handle trouble calls, remedial services, and client requests.
  • Follow unlocking, locking, and alarm procedures; secure buildings per schedule.
  • Drive university light‑duty pick‑ups and vans for equipment and personnel.
  • Set up and retrieve linens and items for special events, provide on‑duty cleaning and event support, and clean after emergencies.
  • Maintain clear written and verbal communication, read and follow work instructions and labels, and use two‑way radio and telephone.
Required Qualifications
  • High school graduation or GED.
  • One year of experience in custodial, environmental services, hospitality, warehouse, production or facilities maintenance.
  • Read, write and comprehend work materials and written instructions.
  • Walk 3–5 miles daily.
  • Communicate via phone and two‑way radio for duty allocation.
  • Team‑player, stable work history, strong attendance record.
  • Texas driver’s license within 30 days if newly resident.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree or higher; more than two years’ experience in custodial or related field.
  • Experience supervising, training, inspecting, and scheduling custodial staff.
  • OS1 experience.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Successful completion of the Campus Planning and Facilities Management Leader Development Program.
Salary

$19,760 + depending on qualifications (annualized salary based upon 20 hours per week).

Shift
  • Workdays:
    Saturdays and Sundays, 2:00 PM – 1:00 AM.
  • All university holidays.
  • Overtime required with little or no advance notice.

Working Conditions

Uniforms and/or personal protective equipment furnished. May work in all weather conditions, extreme temperatures, chemical fumes, electrical and mechanical hazards. May be exposed to blood‑borne pathogens. Continuous standing/walking, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
