JOB PURPOSE: This position’s primary purpose is to ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of the facility. The staff is accountable for the completion of assigned duties with a minimum level of supervision. Staff will interact positively with various customer/client points of contact and shelter staff and respond to requests effectively. The staff must work to ensure exceptional porter and housekeeping services are maintained at shelter facilities.
ESSENTIALJOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrate safe work habits and observe all applicable worker safety practices, including the use of required personal protective equipment.
- Sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors in common areas and resident rooms.
- Emptying trash cans and disposing of waste properly.
- Perform housekeeping duties as necessary to meet customer/contract requirements.
- Operate motorized equipment used for cleaning.
- Performing minor repairs like fixing leaky faucets, replacing light bulbs, unclogging drains.
- Picking up litter and debris around the facility exterior.
- Perform laundry services to ensure sanitation and cleanliness of shelter operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Shelter Manager that pertain to the job duties.
- Maintain a variety of records as required, such as inventory, checklists, and cleaning inspections.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Experience: 4 months to 1 year of experience as a custodial/housekeeper/porter.
- Attendance: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at a level determined by the employer’s discretion.
- Licenses: Driver’s License with clear record.
- Vehicle: Must have daily use of a vehicle without prior notice.
- Other: Must be available and willing to travel to various locations as needed, pose no direct threat or substantial risk to safety, be 21 years or older, be eligible for and maintain security investigation background checks, be a U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident, pass a criminal history screen (including state and local child protection agency registries), and work independently while exercising a high level of confidentiality.
