Job Summary
Senior Computer Operations Specialist, operating and monitoring computer systems and peripheral equipment within a command‑center environment inside University Data Centers to ensure overall availability and reliability that meet or exceed defined service levels.

- Monitor and control the operation of computer system consoles.
- Analyze and escalated reported issues, coordinating resolution.
- Perform data‑hall tasks including securing access to UDC Austin data centers, providing Tier 1 technical assistance for customers (hard‑drive swaps, crash‑cart connections, power‑cycle systems), escorting UT personnel and vendors, and conducting data‑center site checks.
- Receive and ship parts equipment, provide media‑destruction services for UDC customers, and remove and deliver surplus equipment as needed.
- Perform administrative tasks and adhere to policies.
- Respond to and fulfill job tasks within established Service Level Agreements.
- Maintain an acceptable driver rating per policy UTS
157 to drive on‑ and off‑campus utilizing university‑owned vehicles. - Participate in email, project work, meetings, and training.
- Maintain strict adherence to attendance and punctuality for assigned shift.
- Perform any other related functions as assigned.
- U.S. Citizen, resident, or officially recognized asylee.
- High school graduation or GED.
- Three years of experience operating computers and auxiliary equipment.
- Superior customer‑service skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Work seamlessly across organizational boundaries.
- Ability to communicate intelligently and effectively with personnel performing maintenance or upgrade work on computer/facility systems (verbal and written).
- Must complete and pass the CJIS background check process to qualify for employment.
- Five or more years of experience supporting operations of computers and auxiliary equipment.
- Experience supporting operations during overnight shifts.
- Experience providing support to mission‑critical data centers or network operation centers.
- Understanding of electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data‑center operations (HVAC, electrical, and UPS systems).
- Working knowledge of networking concepts, protocols and cabling.
- System administration of Windows, Unix and/or Mainframe platforms.
- Ability and willingness to devise creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs with minimal impact on reliability.
- Technical certifications such as ITIL, A+, or Data Center.
This job requires a class “C” operator’s driver’s license and a current three‑year driving record from the current state of residence. If you are not a Texas resident, a Texas driver’s license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. The driving record will be evaluated to determine eligibility to drive a university‑owned vehicle.
Salary Range$44,000 + depending on qualifications. This shift provides an additional $6,000 annually in shift differential pay.
