Position Overview

The Building Attendant Leader (BAL) is responsible for supervising the week‑end night shift custodial maintenance. The leader ensures proper unlocking and locking of buildings and rooms, custodial cleaning, safety compliance, security procedures, and handling of special assignments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Unlocking & Locking & General Cleaning
    • Ensure work is performed according to established procedures.
    • Maintain work schedules and ensure staff complete assigned tasks.
    • Provide direction during assignments.
    • Work overtime as required.
  • Leadership
    • Serve as on-duty supervisor for weekend night shift.
    • Assign, schedule, and coordinate work of Building Attendants.
    • Inspect areas to ensure correct and timely completion.
    • Provide clear communication and feedback.
  • Abides by Work Rules
    • Follow all UT policies and custodial procedures.
    • Maintain professional appearance and punctuality.
    • Attend mandatory training.
    • Maintain positive performance record.
  • Administrative
    • Prepare documentation including logs, reports, AiM entries, training records.
    • Meet deadlines; provide coaching/redirection as needed.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Safety and Repair
    • Use PPE and safety equipment.
    • Follow safety guidelines; report issues.
    • Operate custodial equipment and UT vehicles safely.
    • Maintain valid Texas Class‑C driver's license and UT driver rating.
  • Perform Work Orders including event setup and on-duty support.
  • Respond to emergencies (e.g., floods).
  • Perform mandatory overtime when needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

Experience following basic work instructions. One year of experience in custodial maintenance. Experience in a supervisory capacity. Ability to read and understand work orders, instructions, product labels, product directions, and other written job materials. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Stable work history. Good communication skills, interpersonal skills, and customer service skills. Basic computer skills. Ability to write simple correspondence and fill out standard forms.

Ability to work according to standardized processes.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

High School diploma or GED. Experience supervising custodians in an OS‑1 cleaning environment. More than one‑year supervisory experience. Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and customer service skills. Advanced writing skills. Working knowledge of safety and sanitation measures appropriate for custodial work. Successful completion of the Facilities Services Leadership Development Program. Successful completion of the advanced OS‑1 Comprehensive Certification Program.

Driving Requirements

This job requires a Texas Class‑C driver’s license. Applicants must provide a current three‑year driving record from their state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver’s license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees requiring a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing.

Salary Range

$20,800+ annually (based on 20 hours per week).

Work Shift
  • Saturday – Sunday from 2:00 PM to 1:00 AM (with 1‑hour lunch break)
  • UT Holidays required
  • Overtime may be required with little or no advance notice.
