Job Summary

The purpose of the Shift Engineer is to ensure that high standards of safety are developed, met and maintained for the entire property. The Shift Engineer reports to the Chief Engineer on items related to daily guest and hotel issues. The Shift Engineer receives support from the Chief Engineer as needed in order to complete larger outstanding tasks/issues.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Works with Chief Engineer to arrange and coordinate all annual safety inspections as necessary (i.e., fire, elevator, pool, health, etc.) and communicates this to the GM and CEO/Owner.
  • Works with all hotel department heads to assess and attend to daily maintenance needs as they relate to operational success and property improvement.
  • Works with the Director of Guest Services and GM to ensure all necessary routine maintenance is performed on hotel equipment (i.e., all laundry machines, ice machines, elevators, pool & electrical equipment, etc.). Communicates all issues to Chief Engineer.
  • Responsible for controlling departmental costs, supplies and inventories.
  • Provides exceptional customer service to all hotel guests, making their stay as comfortable and accommodating as possible while achieving team and hotel goals.
  • Performs all quality assurance (QA) and audit/insurance requirements for department and hotel needs as dictated by the CFO.
  • Fully knowledgeable in the Room Key system as it relates to the Maintenance module and PM/Work Order system.
  • Performs landscaping duties as directed. Takes daily readings of the pool and balances as needed.
  • Maintains a work order system for the hotel and completes work orders on a timely basis. Files work orders as required.
  • Works and communicates with the Director of Front Office and Director of Guest Services to perform, administer and document the preventative maintenance program for all guest room needs.
  • Works with the Executive Chef to ensure all necessary routine maintenance is performed on all kitchen equipment.
  • Responsible for safe and secure storage of flammable/dangerous maintenance items.
  • Coordinates with the Director of Guest Services and public area attendants to maintain the cleanliness of the parking garage, property grounds and interior and exterior of the building.
  • Responsible for walking the entire property regularly, identifying any maintenance or cleanliness items that might need to be addressed and communicating them to the appropriate department/people.
  • Maintains working space in safe and clean condition.
  • Responsible for the upkeep of the pool and pool equipment. Maintains and services pool and spa areas including testing and recording as stated by city and state regulations.
  • Able to assist the catering department in room/function set‑ups (i.e., tables, chairs, equipment, etc.).
  • Fully knowledgeable in the hotel key system (i.e., programming locks, lock overrides, lock reporting, making/issuing keys, etc.).
  • Fully knowledgeable in the hotel’s emergency procedures.
  • Adheres to and follows all safety procedures.
