Summary

Job Responsibilities

Activities:

The Facilities & Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Technician is responsible for supporting the day-to‑day maintenance, operation, safety, and compliance activities across AMSC facilities. This hands‑on role serves as a key resource for facility upkeep, contractor coordination, building repairs, safety inspections, and environmental health and safety initiatives. The ideal candidate enjoys working with their hands, takes pride in maintaining facilities, and has an interest in developing their knowledge of EH&S programs and regulatory compliance.

Functions:
  • Perform routine facility maintenance and repairs, including minor carpentry, painting, ceiling tile replacement, furniture assembly, and general building upkeep.
  • Assist with day-to-day facility operations across office, manufacturing, warehouse, and common areas.
  • Assist with office moves, workspace setup, furniture installation, and facility improvement projects.
  • The ability or willingness to operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely.
  • Assist with shipping, receiving, and general facility logistics as needed.
  • Conduct routine required facility and safety inspections, including fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, eyewash stations, spill kits, and other EH&S equipment.
  • Support EH&S compliance activities and assist with OSHA, NFPA, and company safety program requirements.
  • Assist with accident, incident, and near‑miss investigations and corrective action follow‑up.
  • Support new employee safety orientation and other EH&S training initiatives.
  • Participate in Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), risk assessments, GEMBA walks, and safety observations.
  • Assist with contractor and vendor coordination, ensuring compliance with site safety requirements.
  • Support hazardous waste handling, storage inspections, chemical inventory management, and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) administration.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness activities, fire drills, and evacuation exercises.
  • Maintain facility and safety records, inspection reports, training documentation, and compliance files.
  • Assist with maintaining adequate supplies of facility, maintenance and safety equipment.
  • Identify facility, maintenance, and safety concerns and recommend corrective actions.
  • Travel between AMSC facilities (Ayer and Westminster) to support maintenance and EH&S activities as needed.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Education –

Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate / Bachelor degree, technical school certification, trade school training, or coursework in Facilities, Safety, Maintenance, Construction, HVAC, Electrical, Mechanical, or related field preferred.
  • 1-5 years of experience in facilities maintenance, building operations, EH&S, manufacturing, construction trades, or related fields.
  • Manufacturing or industrial facility experience preferred.
Required Skills, Competencies, Authorities and Training Needs:
  • Hands‑on mechanical aptitude and willingness to perform facility maintenance tasks.
  • General knowledge of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, and basic construction / manufacturing practices.
  • Interest in environmental health and safety programs and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to identify facility issues and perform basic troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple assignments.
  • Good interpersonal skills, the ability to interact with a diverse population of individuals in a collaborative environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic technical documents, safety procedures, and operating instructions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical work in office, manufacturing, and warehouse environments.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to obtain forklift certification.
  • OSHA or EH&S-related certifications are a plus but not required.
